Eating prior to workouts?(4 posts)

Eating prior to workouts?Alan
Jan 6, 2003 5:54 AM
I mtb ride or attend a spin class in the a.m.. I cannot consider eating a meal / food at 7am for a workout/ ride at 8am. I would hurl or reamain nauseaus when my HR goes up. Happened this weekend: at some bread (just to get something in) and when my HR went up, I felt sick. I hate this! This means that each time I go out, I am starting depleted. Any ideas to counter the nausea?

I don't think you have much of a choice besides getting up and eating earlier (like 2 hours before you ride) or just getting up at the same time and eating then riding a little later.

Hi Alan,
I feel your pain; I am the same way. However, I haven't given up on providing my body with some form of "fuel" prior to a good workout.
I'm sure you've already tried this, but in the event you haven't - have you tried something liquid or gel-like? I've had success with even a GU packet and some water to get something to run on.
That is about the only thing that won't upset my stomach except for doing as the previous poster mentioned about getting up earlier. That works for me as well.

Remember - nothin' burps quite like bacon...except maybe salsa. ;)

I'm the same way...I can however stomach something light about an hour or so before a hard ride and then maybe 1/2 a powerbar during a stop...lots o' water!
