| Training for weightloss and general riding? | Blade Jan 6, 2003 2:21 PM | | Howdy,
I'm getting back into riding after a year off due to a dislocated shoulder and an intense summer of autocrossing. I thought I was in decent shape, however when I'm on the bike, it kills me. I used to be an avid mountain biker, but what a season without can change!
I bought a trainer and cyclometer for riding when the weather is bad, so I'm riding 10 miles a day on the trainer. I'm also ding calf raises and the exercise where you lay on your back, hands down your sides, feet together and lift them into the air a few inches and hold. I figure the trainer will give me a nice base for strong riding this season, but what else can put me over the edge? I'd like to be a decent rider by April, what kind of training should I do to get in shape by the first weekend of April? I'm not so much hung up on the weight, as I am riding, but they go hand and hand. Lots of info for me to read would be helpful as well as links. thanks for the help

In the most simplest of terms I have four words: "eat less, ride more" But I would start off slow and build up. Start with 1hr easy rides and work your way to maybe a 3+ hr! Also, about losing weight. There are some simple things you can do that over the course of a couple of months you will notice a difference. First of all stop drinking soda and beer (gasp!) Try to eat a piece of fruit with every meal. And include a salad with lunch and dinner. Try that and if you have any questions feel free to visit my coaching website at www.fascatcoaching.com |
