I am basically a fit person but havent cycled seriously for over 6 months due to personal circumstances. i put on a few pounds lately and want to get back into competitive cycling. how should i start? how many hours should i train per week and what other exercises will help me get fit faster without killing me. Just give me a start thats all. Thanks guys.

There's no secret to it--eat a little less and ride a lot more. Start slow and add 10 percent a week until you're where you want to be.

Don't forget to build a good base (LSD) prior to serious interval training.
For a layoff that long I think this is very important. Good luck.
