Yearly mileage and.....(9 posts)

Yearly mileage and.....amex420

I know someone posts this every year. What was your yearly mileage? I wanted to go just a little further. I would also like to know what class do you race in, road miles vs mtb miles, and lastly what was it that gave you your biggest improvement this year? My mileage this year was 1665 on geared MTB, 139 on single speed MTB, and 4709 on the road, for a grand total of 6513. This is my second year of racing and I just upgraded to senior sport last year. I live in South Florida so my race season actually starts on Jan 11. The thing that gave me my biggest improvement this year was a road bike. This has to be followed by learning my body and nutrition though. I now know my body pretty well and know when I am about to bonk and how to counter that.

I clocked 615 on my new (to me) fully I got in July, 850 on my hardtail which was 80% dirt and 20% commuting on slick tires.

I pretty much do all rides in dirt, apart from my 5 mile each way commute which I average 3 times a week.

I'm building a roadie right now. All I need is some more cashola. Then I'll be racking up mad miles.
Here is my totals, keep in mind that I live in a very hillymerlin

area. Every 10 miles ='s 1,000 feet of climbing.
5,000 total miles , don't know the spread between bikes.
400 hours total ride time- this is the more important number
44 years old raced sport for 2 years upgrading to expert this year

so i finally got around to adding up my time and mileage for '03....i would have done it sooner but i was too busy riding. :)

in '03 i...

...bought 0 new bikes (but restored my 1st bike)
from this:

to this:

...did my 1st off-road metric century
...DNF'ed in 2 mtb races & finished 2 road centuries (with 19,000+ ft climbing combined)
...raced the 3 gap time trial
...got dropped on 4 hammerhead road rides
...spent 5 weeks battling the illness from hell
...rode in 6 states (NC, SC, GA, FL, TN, & CA)
...climbed 7 mountains (several of them twice and a few 3 times)
...made at least 8 new friends through cycling

...did 9 mtb races
...sent letters to 10 potential sponsors begging for stuff/$$
...increased my time on the trainer by 20 hours over '02
...spent 42.4 hours on my trainer

...spent 85.1 hrs on my mtb
...rode 721 miles of trail (178 more miles than in '02)

...spent 192.3 hrs on my road bike
...road 2345 miles (554.18 fewer miles than in '02)

and loved every second of it.

total mileage: 3065.65 miles
total time: 320 hours (do you realize that's 16,123 minutes?!)

raced Sport last year & am moving up to Expert for '04 (first race scheduled for Mar 4)

probably the thing that gave me the biggest improvement this year was finally being able to race consistently. in previous years i'd race sporadically. last year i did the whole Cane Creek Cup mtb series plus a number of other races.

here's to more in 2004.

happy new year all.
