what liquid while riding?antm

First off, Happy New Year to all. I am curious about what to drink while training. I have always used water but have recently seen other products advertised such as enduroxx (sp) etc. Does anyone have any preferences. My rides usually last 1.5 to 2 hours. Anyone notice any positive differences while using these products? Thanx in advance.

I have tried other mixes, such as Cytomax, but they always caused way too much phlegm build up for me. Gatorade works the best for me, especially on hard rides. If it's really warm out I usually take one gatorade bottle and one with plain water.
Different things work for different people so try a few. I believe Cytomax and Endurox are sold in small packets that you can try instead of buying an entire can of it. You can also experiment with different flavors that way too.

I have been training (trathlete and Mt. bike)in the humdity and heat of GA since 85'. I have tried a lot of "stuff" over the years and Gatorade works best for me too. I dilute it according to the conditions but often just use it straight. I keep a Cliff or Power bar with me when the ride gets a little long and eat some quality carbs within 1/2 hr of my rides. There is a lot written on this subject in the triathlon world. You might want to check out some of those sights.

I have tried a number of "sport" type drinks whilst just out riding and also racing, and to be totally honest I have never noticed a dramatic difference. Perhaps the one benefit to enduroxx etc would be the bit of carb in them but otherwise I don't see any benefit.

I ride good with water!

You'll need to test various products while training, what works for one, may not work for another.

I use Accelerade, (4:1 carb/protein mix) in my second bottle, use good ole' gatorade in the first bottle, mix a little thinner so there is not too much phlegm buildup. I like to dump electrolyte in initially, then as the ride wears on get a little protein in the body. It helps me at least, buffer the effects of hard training and muscle tissue breakdown once you go over the 2 hour mark.

Also take some carbs and plain water depending on my mood. Like the mocha mocha Clif gel (caffeinated) but wash them down with plain water. The Power Bar gels are not too good for me anyway, they tend to need almost a whole bottle to wash away the residue and aftertaste, yuck.

Post ride is important, banana, bagel, rice or potatoe to fill back up and a soy protein mixed with 2% milk. Otherwise the next days ride is no fun, and you bonk a couple hours after your ride is done - no fun either.

Never try something new on race day, it could make havoc on your intestinal track.

Water in the camelbak and a cytomax/water solution in a water bottle. i found that i'd get to much of a sugar spike from using cytomax mixed in my camelbak. This way i can regulate how much cytomax i want or need.
thanx for the opinions! nmantm
