careful on the forte wheelset (the pre-built alll black ones) a buddy of mine bought them - looks cool, pretty light. Had a couple spokes break, different times. Went severely out of true after first ride.
hard to beat the value though. Maybe give Mike G at www.oddsandendos.com a call and get his take on a cheap light wheelset.

go for some ritchey logic SPD road pedals at 238 grams. The bebop cleat is heavy. SPD pedal will keep you compatible with your riding buddies.
sounds good...stem?nino

nice project!i doubt your final weight though.i have a much lighter frame and payed much attention to everything...to get it at 7.15 kilos this spring.that was before i switched the aluminum cassette for a DA,the Conti supersonic tires for heavier but faster Michelins, added a bottlecage, replaced "weak"FRM brakes(250g) with stronger but heavier Mavic brakes, replaced hard Tune saddle with SLR...
i`d guess you will arrive at around 7.8-8.0 kilos which is still a good weight.

-the S-Works M4 isn`t light (i doubt it`s 1450g because the s-works bikes were "heavy" at 8.5 kilos even when speced with all those high end parts.i`d guess its about 1600g) but hey,a great frame anyway.make sure to get the right size as this is VERY,VERY important on the road!

-i doubt that wheelset weight...go for a light "Aero" wheelset.aerodynamics is much more important on the road than weight.i have the Mavic Ksyriums (too expensive and heavy at 1760g but look sooo cool...) those wheels made me a lot faster on top speed.

-go for the Mavic Ksyrium brakes if you can find them.lighter and stronger.read the mixed reviews on those DA brakes.most prefer Ultegra over DA.i`ve found that the Mavic brakes are killer, stronger and lighter (305g) and better looking in that all black colour.tuned with some al-bolts they weigh just 289g/pair.

-be careful when choosing the cassette.11-21 is for pros only or if you do only flat riding.if you want enjoy your rides get at least a 12-23 or 12-25 (that`s what I have).my riding buddies are all on 12-27.they suffered just too much going up the hills... they still complain and want to trade the crankset for a triple one.

-the DA crankset isn`t worlds lighter than Ultegra.maybe 30g.the DA weighs 630g including fixing bolts.i got my 105 to weigh less than DA...make sure you get tha same LENGHT crankarms as you have on your MTB!most probably 175mm.regular size for road is 172.5mm.your legs/muscles are accustomed to that longer lenght.

-your cable weight is very optimistic...

-for the fastest clincher setup try this:Michelin aircomp latex tube (72g) combined with Michelin Axial Pro Light 700x20 (175g) tire.both have the lowest rolling resistance as tested by german magazines.the tires alone save 4 watts (at 25 miles) compared to a 140g Conti supersonic (per tire!).they make you FASTER...

-i love my Ritchey WCS pedals (238g).reasonably priced and allow to use regular MTB spd cleats.

what you forgot:
-stem?get a Ritchey WCS stem (142g/120mm).or ITM Millenium (130g/120mm)

-there are 2 tubes,right? add another 85g...

-bottlecage? add another 50g

I don't want to mess my pedalling tecnique with large "mtb"-like cassette and after buing Time road pedals I was forced to sell all my SPD's! Feeling is so much better! No loose anymore feeling eaven mtb's...and Time Carbon Ti's were 353g so 35g less than my previus 858's.I have also tried some sh***ty weight weenie pedels like not-so-Well-Go Ti Wam's,Speedplays they all breaked or wre wery bad gettin in...My advice on Time mtb's:"Use Tourist setting for ceats and you be fine."

doubting DA crankset+cassette weights...nino

WOW-what a nice bike!
now what you really need are some lightweight aero wheels.I also started with a lightweight setup with Revolutions and Open Pro rims.when i switched to the Ksyriums my topspeed went up about 2 miles on the flat and those wheels are so much stiffer than the Revo spoked wheels that you can actually feel the power transferred to the ground when sprinting or out of the saddle...that wasn`t the case before.the energy seemed to be eaten away by the soft wheels (and i even had 32/32 spokes).also try the Michelin combo i suggested above.the added speed can even be felt!my 700x20 supersonics were terribly prone to flats (glass or any other sharp object went trough like as it was paper...).handling is another thing that was strange.since i`m riding the Michelins my bike handles much better and also comfort is better (i also didn`t believe that but it IS.same pressure-more comfort!).i will never go back on the supersonics again.as i mentioned above:the supersonics need 4 watts more at 25 miles than the Michelins.double that and you are at 8 watts...just to overcome the added rolling resistance of those tires!why not a all- carbon fork?do you hesitate because of your large size?this would save 100g.

-my DA 11-21/9s cassette weighs 159g.
-the 39/53 DA Crankset weighs 630g.check the weight also on damonrinards site.
-whats that 20g ITM bar tape you use?

Ok,I'll weight then again after work.It seems that you use cheap Phillps scale...pretty desent but has 2-7g fails under 1000g.Mine frien has one and being scientist he tested it pretty well...

I hate all carbon forks! Too flexy, headsets don work well because they twist (again too flexy)....and I got Profile with good price.Thinking about 340g fork for me and racing...too scary!

I know few carbon fibre specialists ( http://www.afhbikes.com ) and they haven't found desent full carbon fork yet in this planet....maybe Time's new models are first ones?

I'm waiting price for Zipp 280/American Classic/Sampim X-ray/alloy nippes, all black set...then I need good desent prised tubes...Conti Sprints are good but they weight 280g/piece...Does anubodu know which tube will roll best?

Tufo has a whole range of tubes. Best is the brand new, 440tpi Elite Road. Red with black, 23mm and 240g. Lighter optiops : 21mm S3 Lite <215g, or if you like narrow : S3 Lite <195g 19mm

For clean road Time Trials, use S3 Lite <135g, 21mm track tube. New : Elite Track <120g, 440tpi and 21mm.

I can help you get them, otherwise you´ll find that to be quite hard...

Nice project, keep us up to date!

Tufos are nice tires, I used one Lite <215g (210g true weight) till it flatted. Rolls nicely, wear is very good (kind of like Michelin Axial Pro). One thing I noticed, it was very noisy while rolling (compared to Conti) - what's the deal here?
Now I use Conti Competition 22, they ride very well while lighter than Sprinters (they are all overweight, "Sprinter 250" was 273g). But they don't last as long as Tufos.
Try the Reynolds Ouzo pro or AME Q forkCKS

Try the Reynolds Ouzo pro fork- I've heard great things about it, although haven't ridden it: http://www.slowtwitch.com/mainheadings/prodreview/newproduct/reynolds.html

I ride a straight bladed AME Q on my cervelo tri bike- talk about stiff!
http://www.elitebicycle.com/Catalog/Forks/AME%20Alpha%20Q%20Carbon%20Fork.htm
A curved fork is also available, and might be more forgiving: http://www.bullteksports.com/catalog/pictures/AME/forks.htm

-11-21 cassette still 145g!!!
-BB still 175g
-F-dr 74g still(Ultegra 81g)
-cranks 175mm 39/53 573g...+bolts 32g,where to get lighter ones?
-F-dr 73g (Ultegra 81g)
-brakes 313g...I heard new ones are coming with more tyre clearence?

Now I also have full carbon fork,200mm headtube,350g.

Wow thank you all for your input, so it'll be 17lbsAl

than in the 15lbs. Do you know anything about Scantante Airplane 3.0lb frame for $750 and lower model 3.3lb for $499. Are they any good? How's the Kestral Talon for $1650 with Ultegra group? Thanks everyone for all your help.
