Alright, I have the option of getting a Trek or a Cannondale at below wholesale (15% below for cannondale, 20% below for Trek) I am wanting to get as light as possible of a bike (hardtail only) so the only two real options would be the Trek 9.8 or the cannondale F3000 sl. The trek would cost a little below $1000 and the cdale would cost around $1300. I have about $1800 that I can spend and I can buy stuff for employee price which (correct me if I'm wrong) is 25% off. So what bike should I get and what parts should I upgrade to get as light as possible for $1800 total? Thanks in advance for your help.

These two types of bikes have pretty different geometry, so I would have to say to choose the on that fits the best. They are both really nice bikes, and I personally would choose the cannondale, that isn't neccisarily the best choice for you. Try to get some time on both bikes to determine fit and handling characteristics.

The Headshock has a recommended service interval of 30 hours. That is extremely frequent for those of us who really train. Almost impossible to find a Cannondale dealer who can service all aspects of the Headshock. Any Cannondale rep who tells you otherwise is just a cheerleader out and out lying to you. The headshok could be great if they would fix the damn thing! |

I am upgrading the cranks to next lp's and lighter brakes and shifters to make it even lighter I love the bike. Go for the trek the head shock is shady stay away. trek also has the better staff deal plus its a nicer frame.
