| help-any suggestions on lightweight road tubulars? | nino Nov 4, 2001 11:43 PM | | i`m finally getting serious about a lightweight tubular road-wheelset.american classic looks very promising...until now i was hesitating because those glued-on tubulars seemed too much of a hassle.but the wheels are so much lighter that i just HAVE to get such a wheelset. now my question: which tubular tire suits my needs best?lightweight for everyday use and not prone to flats (my clincher Conti supersonics flatted too often).any help is appreciated and also info on weights. TUFO ? Jan Gerrit you can help me here as you are the Tufo-man... CONTI olympics ? VITTORIA? others? any suggestions on lightweight tubular wheels?i`m still uncertain on which one to get. |
| lighter= faster wear | str8dum Nov 5, 2001 5:11 AM | | sure u can ride those light tufos. on the rough road u may get like 500 miles out of them. if they are race only wheels, they thats cool. if u r going to use them for training or everyday i'd suggest the vittoria corsa cx's, conti sprinters, veloflex criteriums. they weigh between 250 and 300g. they are all pretty flat free tubs. not too expensive. u realize that olympics cost over $200 each right and are a track tub. the really light tubs are for the track, are very narrow, and will wear very quickly on the road. |
| TUFOs come in different weights... | clary. Nov 5, 2001 10:08 AM | | I boughts some TUFO S33 Special for $25 each at http://www.sdeals.com/system/index.html. The advertised weight was 260 grams but mine were closer to 280 grams. They are considered general road or training and are good value. Other TUFOs come in weights down to 125 grams.

| Not always so | Rocky Rider Nov 5, 2001 8:23 PM | | I've had Tufo Lite <215g (210g actual weight), I rode it for about 2000 km before it flatted. It showed little wear (as good as Michelin Axial Pros), and rolled well. It is also rated for 220 psi!
Now I have Conti Competition 22, forgot to weigh them before I put them on. Roll nicely like Sprinters at 150 psi, but are a bit lighter (twice the $$ as well). They don't wear as good as Tufo. |
