what's the verdict on this seatpost? is it durable for mtb abuse (i will be using the 250mm version)? do you have to use a shim? what's the minimum insertion length? along with fore and aft, does the clamping mech allow for angle adjustments?

its so darn light that i have to get it!

I had one on my MTB, but i broke it after two weeks, i had it warrantied and put it on my road bike, no problems so far.

By the way, a friend of mine had one too on his road bike, it lasted three months before it broke.

But this two seatposts were the firsts to came out, now they have a protection sleeve on the place the clamp inserts the carbon, according to USE this will not happen to the new posts.
The Titec carbon 175 is lighter when considering the shim.0700

I use an alien carbon 25.0 x 350 mm post since march 2001 and had no problems with it. I´m riding XC, Marathons and also light Freeride.

ALWAYS use a shim with that post, so I use a shim from 25.0 to 27.2mm to fit in my frame.

The post (25.0x350mm) weighs 146 grams, the shim 22 grams, so complete 168 grams.

The minimum insertin length is 100mm, it´s marked on the post.

After once you´ve adjustet your saddle, you have to completely open the clamp and readust the whole thing new.
But once you´ve find your optimal positon, you won´t change it.

Here´s a pic of my post fitted in the frame, the "dark black ring" is electrical tape to find the correct height, below you see the top of the shim (just over the salsa clamp)
