| Bebop Trio - anyone tried them? | Szymon Nov 5, 2001 2:47 PM | | Mr bebop claims to be making a $90 250ish g pedal - new concept, different from the old versions. Anyone seen or ridden them? |
| re: Bebop Trio - anyone tried them? | Jan Gerrit Nov 5, 2001 10:20 PM | | This is what the site says: (apart from that it's not ready yet)
true step down entry
incredible mud clearance
8 degree of float
two sided
265 grams perpair -- the lightest SPD-style pedal available
17-4 stainless spindle
needle and ball cartridge bearings
no shoe trimming required
one-piece clamp/spring-- no coil springs, no pivot screw, no bulky pedal body
Ok... So they claim to have the lightest SPD pedal at 265g. AND good mud clearance, hmmm... I don't see it though, hope they're right.
To me, the whole seems too square to allow the cleat to find entry easily, what do you guys think? |
| interesting...but Corratec are lightest "SPD-Style" pedals.. | nino Nov 5, 2001 11:39 PM | | those Beebobs look good! since they are not available yet published weights have to be taken with care... Corratec Easy-Click Ti pedals weigh 245g/pair and are SPD style.tuned with some aluminum bolts mine weigh 235g and work great.extremely good in mud because of its open design and no spring mechanism at all.

| "no spring mechanism at all"? SO what retains the cleat then? | Jan Gerrit Nov 6, 2001 12:45 AM | | The front sides of the Trio´s seem simular to the Corratecs, vertical plate with a sleeve in it, or am I mistaking here? |
| no moving parts would be correct... | nino Nov 6, 2001 3:51 AM | | there are no moving parts on the Corratec pedals.mud can`t clog the steel plates.we have lots of mud during wintertime over here in switzerland.we had only 4 degrees celsius the other night and winter is coming fast...you have to wear long sleeved thermo/windstopper clothes for cycling! i`ve never had any problems with those pedals for nearly 3 years now.shimano pedals often make for difficult entrys in the mud. |
| nino, they use a bushing for one of the bearings... | rick Nov 6, 2001 4:02 PM | | right? Have you had to service or replace it in the time you have used them? |
| nino, they use a bushing for one of the bearings... | nino Nov 6, 2001 10:04 PM | | they work so smooth even after 3 years.they are the smoothest turning pedals i`ve ever had.i serviced them once about a year ago because i just couldn`t imagine how they could still turn so freely when used in all that dirt for 2 years.they didn`t need that servive at all.they were still in perfect condition.they are still perfect after another year now! |

I'm going to give EggBeaters a go though because at the moment I use Time pedals and like them more than SPDs. I won't use anything with a titanium spindle (like the Corratecs) besause I weigh about 85Kgs and I don't fancy having one break on me.
