| Conti Twister Supersonic - any good | Szymon Nov 6, 2001 1:30 PM | | Are these 390 g tires tough enough for normal use (not just a few races)? How do they work in dry / wet conditions? |
| Better than you'd think... | joeadnan Nov 6, 2001 7:23 PM | | I used them on a 40km, 9-hour ride in technical and muddy terrain (see details of the trail here), and they performed really well, despite the shallow treads. They shed mud really well, and hooked up superbly on the technical and slimy uphills.
The rubber compound doesn't seem soft. Which is good, since the knobs are so shallow. Expect traction to disappear once the tread wears. They're also an excellent tyre for road, as the shallow knobs don't squirm in corners.
Disadvantages: look out for pinchflats; probably need to pump them slightly harder. In REALLY technical terrain you'd want something with meatier knobs. |
| Better than you'd think..- As long as you can keep the air in... | Jan Gerrit Nov 6, 2001 10:11 PM | | These are the easiest tires to flat. Over here at the LBS they became a true hit because of their weight and speed, but sales came to a screaching halt when we came to find out how weak they really are.
I flatted them twice in a race, cost me LOTS of points and effectively a chance to finish in the top. I even flatted one on a climb, with sufficient air in it. Tire is SO thin, you would just puncture, but even have visual damage on he tread.
I tried to use on no-tubes, but the hole was already too large to get it to seal.
Also, the beads are TOO skinny, makes it hard to mount them tru on lots of occasions, everyone complains about it. So they wobble on you wheel, very irritating.
If you want a light supertire, this is it! But do take some spare tubes along with you...
A Maxxis Minotaur 380 is a much better, full spec tire, with some meat where you need it. I still haven't flatted mine after quite some races and trails. Wear is not as bad as you'd expect. |
| What PSI were you runing & your weight..... | KMan Nov 7, 2001 9:26 AM | | I totally disagree....I have been running the Twister Pro in the rear for several months (races only) with absolutly great performance & no flats. I weigh 185 lbs and run the pressure at 50 to 53 psi. Continental tires state you must run higher pressure on their tires.
Several races were pure rock gardens as well

| yup | Spikes Nov 7, 2001 10:18 AM | | Mine come in at no more than 340 g the piece and I really love them combined with Maxxis Flyweight tubes. Even for everyday use. |
