I was going to get a new stem but...Adam

I just weighed my Bonty Race Lite stem (105mm 7deg)planning on swapping it out, but I found out that it weighs 164g. This is not that bad. I probably wouldn't be able to save much weight which leads me to the question, What is up with Bontranger?

This time last year I would have gladly chosen scrap metal over any bonty part. With the intro of the race lite wheels and all new 2002 stuff, I'm being forced to put more faith in the company. The comp stuff still sux, but the nice stuff is just that.

Hmmm... I'd disagree. Years ago I'd have bought anything with Keith's name on it. There used to be really quality in everything he built. Today Bontrager is an extension of Trek, and operates like Trek. Just because it carries the Bontrager name does not make it good. I agree that the high end is still high end. The low end is just that - low end. All of it used to be good. Oh well.

Their lower end stuff is pretty shit, but that's a good stem weight for 105mm, you could go lower but not much.

I have just ordered a set of Bontrager Race Lite tubless after checking the weight (a claimed 840/640 on their web site or 835/625 in their brouchure) When I get them I will post the actual weight.
