| 5 best upgrades 4 Fuel 90 | MTB.'er Jan 17, 2002 6:17 PM | | Hey, I mainly want to lighten up my trek fuel 90 but I don't have the money for a complete xtr set. I want to know your opinion on what u think the top 5 upgrades would be for a trek fuel 90. So far I'm thinking......(and correct me if I'm wrong)....
1. Continental explorer pro tires
2. Easton monkey lite carbon fiber riser bars
3. Shimano xt hallowtech crankset
4. ??????
5. ??????
*I've also been having problems w/ the chain skipping on the front chainrings, any advice on that would be helpful too.
Thanks for all your advice:) |

Although there is a new explorer for this year, I love the Seracs. Riser bars are a must on the 90. I think that the handlebar is very onomfortable. Ther is a new Monkey Light SL low rise which is 135 g. I think that the high rise is too much. When you switch out the crank, upgrade the front derailer to prevent the chain suck. Front derailers are cheap anyway(maybe go XTR) . The next area to save some weight would be the seat and seatpost. the FS2000 is nice but heavy. Look at Fizik and Selle Italia for the saddles, and the Easton CT2 for a seatpost. |

| re: 5 best upgrades 4 Fuel 90 | rp Jan 18, 2002 5:27 AM | | Get Hutchinson airlite tires. Their large volume gives an unmatched ride and they are very light. Pythons are around 470 grams. Run liquid latex (www.notubes.com) for further savings for cheap. |

XTR/Valiants) -XT 11-32 cassette -lighter crank/bb (eg. Stylo/isis bb) while I'm at it... SRAM shifters/rear dr. (very light). Lighter brakes and levers (SRAM or Avid Ti) monkeylight riser (not a real cost-effective upgrade, but nice) USE alien post lighter saddle king headset |
| DONT get Hutchinson Mosquito air-lite's | Adam Jan 21, 2002 6:16 AM | | My friend got these tires on his super V. 50 miles later, the tires look like raw innertubes. All of the knobs broke off. This is my friend who never rides and cannot keep up, but still managed to kill the tires. I think he is about 180lbs. He is also the one that we have to wait for because he always getting flats. He still can't get the tire off the rim.
As far as the thompson seatpost, It is better then the Easton with its seat rail clamps, but the CT2 is lighter I belive. |
