| Do any of you all race your lightweight rigs in 24hr races? | DJS Jan 18, 2002 7:43 AM | | Does anyone around here race their "sub 20 or 21" pounders in endurance races? What about traditional 2 hour xc races?
just curious I guess. I dont see many crazy-light bikes in actual races - durability problems? maybe its just that lots of racers cant afford high-zoot lightweight parts.
whats your thoughts? |
| I do.... | SS_MB-7 Jan 18, 2002 8:07 AM | | I use my rigid singlespeed for 24 Hour racing and local, regional and provincial XC races (Expert/Elite). And no, the courses I race on are not tame -- they are tight-n-twisty singletrack courses full of rocky/rooty sections and nasty climbs/decents. Last season, I did run into some durability issues with my Formula B4 disc brakes and my Morati cranks. As such, I'm going to suck-up the weight gain and go with a set of Hope Minis and FSA Carbon Pro crankarms. There is a fine-line between light-weight and durability. Ride Hard, Mike B. |
| Yeah, I ditched my B4's too | DJS Jan 18, 2002 8:21 AM | | My B4s lasted 150 miles in LaRUTA De Los Conquistadores. Smoked the pads, lost a lever pivot retaining clip, had serious heat buildup/power loss/lever sponge problems on the 30min descents.
Now on Martas and Louises. A little more peace of mind. |

| Yes-24 Hours of Snowshoe | Fett Jan 20, 2002 7:15 AM | | I have raced my 23.5 lb Giant NRS twice at the 24 Hours of Snowshoe with no failures other than a bent disc rotor. |
| How did it get bent...? | AZ X-Racer Jan 20, 2002 11:19 AM | | What brakes are you using? |
