tubeless rim strips(15 posts)

tubeless rim stripsrp

All this talk of Stan's new system is quite interesting - sounds like a good thing if it works as well as claimed. How about Bontrager's rimstrip? I know last year's were bad, but what about the apparently improved version for 02? They are coming on lots of fisher and trek models with race, race lite wheels. Does anyone have any experience with them? How about with latex?

I have used the bontrager's and the Rolf's tubeless rimstrip with the liquid latex with great results no hassle getting the tire to inflate and better sealing than with UST tires I have not used the "02" system yet but I have looked at the difference's and it could only work better Thanks Rob

The Bonti rim strips are more like big plastic hoops. They wouldn't fit regular rims as the are contoured to the shape of their rim only. I've looked.
Actually if you want to knock some weight of your factory Bonti wheels(the newer wheels that are convertable from tubed to tubeless) you could pull that big plastic hoop and convert it with Stans system.

Those rim strips are very different than the Michelin strips that came with my Stan Stuff. Where do I get them? Are they specific to Stan?

These are part of his new system which eliminate the need for taping and is supposed to reduce the chance of rolling the bead off

How do they reduce the chance of a tire running off? On the pic it looks like a v-shape only, notingactually holding the bead. Or is there?

Would that rimstrip stretch to fit a 700c/20mm rim?
I dont know ask Stan (nm)Re-Pete

While stuffing around trying to post these pics I had an idea

I wonder what would happen if you took a 24" tube cut it open and stretched it tight around you rim

just a thought
A friend did that with BMX tubes (20") several years ago....rick

I have been trying this for a few months now with mixed results

does this strip get sandwiched between the rim and the tire bead creating the seal

If so it would need to be thin as it would reduce the amount of bead sitting behind the bead hook

Make me wonder with all these latest stories and the added weight of the rimstrips which seem needed to get the best results if I should go with a set of Mavic UST rims on my new wheelset

any opinions
