| Sun Sub IVs and Conti Survival Pro 2.3s are a TIGHT fit... | DeeEight Jan 18, 2002 10:52 AM | | and require lots of effort and tire levers to get the beads onto the rim. Could be useful info for people trying DIY tubeless methods. Tight fits generally result in less risk of blowoff during inflation. |
| You think that's bad... | Metroid Jan 18, 2002 12:10 PM | | Try a Panaracer Fire DH 2.3 on Sun Rhino Lite. The Sun rims fit tight but those thick DH sidewalls make it a MF'er to work with. There's no way that's coming off the rim. I had to use the back end of a Park BBT-7 as a tire lever to get enough leverage to get it on. Worse part about it, the first time I finally got it on, I popped the tube on the last sqeeze. Of course it was equally difficult getting it off. Second time, I got it on and pumped up but then I noticed I put the tire on backwards. Oh well, it's gonna stay like that. |
| Other tight fits.... | Steve-O Jan 18, 2002 1:11 PM | | I'm using Sun rims on both my mtb and CX bike right now. My tires are Michelin Comp-S (mtb) and Michelin Mud (CX). I've broke two tire levers already! I almost dread getting punctures because the bead is so tight with this tire/rim combo.
On the other hand, these tires do hook up nice! And Sun gave me a good deal on the wheelsets! |
| Try WTB/Hutchinson Mosquitos | Eric F Jan 18, 2002 8:42 PM | | Broke both levers on the Topeak Alien (good thing REI gave me a new one). Took lots of cursing and manipulation to get those damn things on. When I went out to do a bomb snow ride last night I found out I broke the bead and had an utterly flat and completly useless front tire. Panaracer Fire XC's fit fine though... pretty strange... |
