SID carbon race question(4 posts)

SID carbon race question8speed

quick question. with a carbon road fork, i've always cut the steerer a couple mm long so that it sits above the top of the stem to prevent it from getting crimped. anyone know if you have to do the same with the carbon SID? thanks.

I haven't heard anything about that. Mine is cut just like a regular steerer. No problems so far with the steerer a few millimeters underneath the top of the stem.
Just to be safe, you can ask the folks at Rockshox.

I installed one today on a friend's Turner Stinger
standard, 3mm below stem top
it uses a (supplied) SFN alternative

Actually I've read in Velonews that in a pro road team (can't remember which) they cut all forks a bit long and put a spacer on top for exactly that reason. Most people/shops don't do it. It may not be necessary, especially on 1-1/8" steerers, but if you want to be on a safe side it sure won't hurt.
