JG, how much weight would the necessary amount of Tufo goop add to a wheel with a tube.

I'm trying to figure out what will be better/cheaper/lighter: Conti Explorer Supersonics+Tube+Tufo sealant, or the DuraSkin version with Stan's.

Also, how quickly does the Tufo junk dry inside tubes? Will it seal a puncture on the fly like Stans's?

Thanks in advance. Hope your 60km singletrack stayed dry today - out the window it looks like rain!

For 700c roadtubes, 15-20g is advised. Like Latex, it will only seal small punctures, and not always on the fly. A roady found his pre-goo'ed Tubular to drop from 10 to 8.5 bar after a glasspuncture. He did have to stop to peel the glass out, and the tub sealed on the fly. 1.5 bar in a 22mm tub is not much when converted to a 2.0" tire.

I may have had lots of on-the-fly seals with Tufo Sealent in tubes, but then I didn't notice them. Once had a Twister Supersonic with light tube puncture in a big way, dropped out of the race. Only to find out week later that the goo HAD done it's work. All I'd needed to rejoin the race was some air...

I guess 30g per wheel should do the trick. BUT, it does make the sidewalls sticky, to a point where it gets glued together when deflated. Deflation would of course speed that process up.
Don't know about the speed with which it normally dries up, will have a lot to do how 'well' the tube is chalked. Remember, the goo was invented for Tufo's own butyl innertubes.

I am convinced that the old Stan's, without extra rimstrips, will be a faster ride than a goo'ed tube with the same tire. Don't know about rolling resistance figures between the 2 kind of twisters...
But Stan's will also allow you to retain sufficient grip and higher comfort at higher pressures, keeping rolling resistance down.

I hear very good review from the heavier Twisters, perhaps that will be your best bet in terms of outright performance, even if it's couple of grams heavier. When counting grams, keep in mind that even the lightest purpose-designed rimliner weighs about 3g per wheel.

Today's ride when elsewhere than what was in the programm. I got 41km, with long parts of paved road. The singletrack was very rideable, only short mudpools to negotiate.

Oh, Stan claims his goo doesn't work on tubes, but still I use my diluted mouldbuilder all the time for that purpose. I used a thicker mix to seal a puncture in Tufo CX tub that had taken time to seal in the first place (let it rest overnight at low pressure), and had later opened up while riding. The thicker (1:1) mix did the trick without even any spilling, and it lasted. I added some water to make the solution normal again, for longer life.
