Nino, removing chainring "waste"Alan

It's time to break out the roadbike and tune it up. I think I would like to lighten my load with minimal cost...Ultegra rings. 53/39. You once gave a photo of the metal you removed...stated you noticed NO loss in integrety...What dremel bit did you use, and how did you go about removing such a large mass with a small bit? cut it out first? then trim to line? I just don't see how a dremel bit can grind away such a large amount without packing up ? Guide me, oh one of lesser grams.........

my set of rings on my roadbike weighs 97g right now but i`m about to get a new big ring and will shave it some more...i expect abput 90g for the set.
your 53t alone weighs about 95g...
expect total savings of about 40g on the rings and another 30g with some Al-chainring bolts.

here`s my tools:

I start with those "emery cloth" tools.they are very good and take away lots of metal but have to be changed quite often because the aluminium packs them.the metal cutters are also an option but i like those emery cloth tools best.

on the picture you can see how my old set of rings looked like.I marked yellow how i treat my new set of rings.drilling was time consuming and doesn`t save as much as shaving away material.my drilled 38t weighed 28g.my new, shaved TA Specialite weighs 24g (was 35g before).the 51t Dura-ace weighed about 95g before and actually weighs 71g (drilled).I expect my new TA 51t to weigh about 65g when finished.
I use 38/51.
slight correction...nino

just 20g savings with Al-chainring bolts.30g is for triple chainring set.
