Lightweight Shifter Cables?(3 posts)

Lightweight Shifter Cables?Big Bird
Mar 21, 2002 4:01 PM
I'm currently running generic shifter cables, but I wouldn't mind installing a set of the lightweight versions I've seen occasionally on this board. Does anybody have any experience with any of them? Weight savings (shifters only)?

Thanks!

well-I just installed those GLEITEC U3 shifter cables on my new Scott but they don`t work any good.they are lightest but that doesn`t help when you get gohst shifting...

I will go back to Tune plastic housing.

here`s some weights of Cables + Housings:
BRAKE:
Tune "plastic" : 21.5g/m
Tune "Aluminum" : 37g/m
Shimano: 53.0g/m
Gore: 57g/m
Shimano XTR : 58.5g/m

SHIFT:
Gleitec U3 : 12.5g/m
Tune "plastic": 14.5g/m
Jagwire: 32.0g/m
Shimano SIS : 34.0g/m

INNER CABLES:
XTR Shift Cable : 9g/m
XTR Brake Cable : 13g/m

SET OF CABLES (XTR shift+brake with housing, per bike):
Hardtail: ca. 150g
Fullsuspension: ca. 200g

Tune "plastic"-housing

get that plastic housing through greycycle.com from switzerland (dc@greybicycle.com).cost is really minimal and especially the shift housing works excellent!forget the brake housing as it is much thicker and won`t accept sealed cable ends...water and debris enters and ruins smooth action.the plastic housing is pretty stiff so no small loops can be made.i had a Avid Rollamajig at the rear derailleur.
Nino, have you tried gore ultralight vs tune ? (nm)20.100
