| Stans Tubeless worked (for me)!!! | Echo Mar 22, 2002 5:16 AM | | To most people on this board it comes as no suprise that Stans Tubless works but, for me, stuff like this never works. Last night I went and pulled the tube out of a spare front wheel and set it up for tubeless. I had a little trouble getting the air to take, using 12g CO2 cartridges, but after I used pure liquid soap on the bead it took. After the bead sealed, I saw that the valve stem was leaking air like crazy. I used a beveled facet washer for valve stem thinking it would make a better seal - WRONG. I replaced the facet washer with an o-ring, BINGO. After trying it again the tire held pressure. I spun, rocked, pitched the tire around to distribute the latex around, everything looked good.
I checked it this morining and the pressure droped down to about 20 psi, I noticed there was some bubbles around the valve stem so I pumped it back up to 50 psi and sloshed the liquid latex around. I'll check it again when I get home.
Now I have to get out and try it....

Tire: Michelin Wildgripper XLS (2.1")
water/latex: 4:1

rim cleaning agent: brake cleaner |
| If stuff "never works" for ya... | Shylock Mar 22, 2002 5:40 AM | | ...then you owe it to yourself to get the rimstrips; they're idiot proof. I left my old tattered taping job on my rims and simply threw the rimstrip over it. (I had run the original system before, but didn't like how difficult it was to change tires without damaging the tape, and the fact that I needed a compressor to initally pump up the tires didn't bode well for race situations) I then pumped up my tires with a floorpump....that's right -- a floor pump! Since then, I have had no PSI loss except on one fateful ride where I tore the sidewall in my Explorer pro. Otherwise, I can change tires with ease, and have no more concerns about my tires now than I did when I was running tubes.
