Titec Carbon C191 Post Any Good?(8 posts)

Titec Carbon C191 Post Any Good?xc-baby
Mar 23, 2002 2:36 PM
Anyone use this post?
Can get it for $40 - is that a good price?
How good is the clamping mech? Is it as good as a Thomson?

The roadies all say that carbon posts help dampen road shock and vibration.

Do you notice the benefits of a carbon post on an XC hardtail?

How did that happen?

How much did the rider weigh and what happened to the rider?

What did Titec have to say about it?
Warranty?

Thanks

How many posts did you brake ?

Any other facts to support your claim ?

....... although I have bent a Thomson before. I am a big dude, 230lbs 6' tall. I shouldnt have been riding a Carbon post, but still, that doesnt negate the fact that it broke, when other posts would not have broken. It broke in a XC racing situation, nothing out of the ordinary, or un-justly hard on the post.

I see your point, but the fact that you broke only this post among the ones you tried is still based on one single sample of the carbon post. If you should, or not, be riding it depends on the manufacturer specs and recomendations. Now, my point is that if your experience is in one sample only and (if) you were using it unaware of the manufacturer specs and recomendations pehaps you shouldnt tell that the post is no good.

Okay, I dont wanna be anal on this issue, just pointing out my opinion.

it's worked fine for me....Patchito

I've had one for about 4 years now and haven't suffered catastrophic failure. Of course, then again, I'm not 230 lbs; and realistically, you shouldn't have ever been on that seatpost to begin with. It's not a case of having a bad seatpost, just bad judgement. I do find the clamp do be annoying, and my first one had the clamp separate the first week I had it, but that was a manufacturing defect and I promptly had it replaced cost free. In the ensuing four years or so I haven't even thought twice about it. BTW, I'm 150 lbs, so keep that in consideration. Like any weight bearing, ultra lightweight chi chi part, you have to use common sense and stay away if you're a clydesdale.

Clamp sucks! I got the Ti version and it's the toughest to adjust, with limited movement. I used to think Titec was awesome. Go Thomson, I just ordered a build kt and that's what I got. Check their website for how they like to show off their durability.

Good luck.
