Codman, I've searched the archives and found some posts with you saying that you mounted tires with Stan's on Propels. Was it very difficult? I have a set of Propels that I was thinking of going to Stan's with. I've got IRC mythos tires now, maybe going to a lighter Michelin later. Do you have any thoughts/suggestions? New or old rim tape? Another tire, maybe? Or just forget about Stan's? Thanks.

Hi Split,
yup that's what I'm using currently! My Propels were year 2000, so non-tubeless.

The front mounted quite easily, but the rear was impossible because of the aymetrical drilled rims! Believe me! I tried everything; nothing worked! They wouldn't keep air for more than 24h!! But that was using tape, not Stan's new rimstrips!

What I did for the rear was change my rim for a 2001 tubeless rim, and now it works fine! Had I known Stan was making a rim strip, I probably would have just bought this instead!!

So my setup is front regular rim + tape, rear 2001 tubeless rim.

I've mounted with sucess IRC mythos XC tires, Maxxis wormdrive (wire bead) and Wormdrive 430s. I even mounted the Minautor 380s on the rear successfully, but not on the front! It seems too loose!

If your rims are tubeless, you just need to fit the tire and inflate. If they aren't, tape will work fine for the front, but get a special rim strip for the rear!!

If you have more questions, just ask! I'll be glad to help if I can!

Luego!

Should be able to order you a set! But you're going to have to order the Propel rims which are expensive! But the drilling is the same and should be compatible. You'll probably have to change the spokes since the tubeless rim isn't asymetrical!

propel tubeless are NOT asymmetrical!??split

The tubeless versions are not asymmetrical?! I thought the asymmetry was suppose to add strength and even-out spoke tension. Is this ignored for tubeless-ness? My Uraccos are asymmetrical and are tubeless-compatible. Is that different from just simply being tubeless?
That's weird! My spoke holes are...CODMAN

dead center in the rim! Are you sure your Urracos are asymetrical and Tubeless? On my old rims, the aymetry was obvious!!!

tubeless compatible with asymm...split

I am sure about the asymmetry, not sure about the tubeless compatibility (on Uraccos). Should it say it somewhere on the rim like other rims, because it doesn't. Honesty, I haven't tried as tubeless, only with tubes. I was just told and read that this model is tubeless compatible with a special rimstrip from trek. I've got the special valves for it too.
Is there a deep gruve in the rim...CODMAN

into which a special rimstrip could seat? Like abour 1/4 inch deep (and I'm not talking about the rim bed). If so, they might be tubeless! My Rolf rims have a small sticker on them saying they are Tubeless compatible!!
