Looking for more confirmed weights... For ME this time...AZ-X
Mar 25, 2002 3:56 PM
I need to get some REAL confirmed weights (and if you have actual riding impressions, those as well) for the following 2002 frames WITH shock:

'02 Specialized S-Works FSR XC (small and/or medium)
'02 Rocky Mountain Element Team SC (small and/or medium)
'02 Rocky Mountain Element (small and/or medium)
'02 Rocky Mountain Instinct (small and/or medium)
'02 Titus Racer X (small)

Thanks!
Dont worry about the frame weight, the parts make up the majoritAZ SRAM-head

y of the bike weight. Just worry about the ride. You can always tune the frame.
I'll appreciate some SERIOUS answers from anyone who cares to-AZ-X

dad has one of those Team SCs. He said its way killer and it flys.

Its got a confirmed weight of 26.23lbs or 11.908 kilos. Thats with the fork/shock.

Ive only seen the others in MBA at 7/11. They look like there bitchin'.
Thanks. I'll get a chance to ride the newest ones of all of...AZ-X

these models when I go up to Phoenix/Tempe in a couple of weeks to shop around. I'm looking for a bike that is a bit better laid out than my NRS (for me) and I also want to take a look at some frames with lower weight combined with slightly different suspension action. I think I'm ready to try a truly fully active design now (or at least see what one really feals like in the newer models) and I want to see how these bikes have changed in the last 2-3 years... I'll be stopping at the Titus factory too along the way.
Still need these confirmed '02 frame weights....AZ-X

if anyone's got them. Thanks!

You can ride my RacerX, but it's a largepedalAZ

I'd be happy to let you take a spin on my Racer X, but its a large, and a 2001.

Call Stephanie at Titus and schedule a time to drop in on the shop in Tempe. They'll level with you on weight, geometry issues, etc. Real nice people.
Thanks! I know it's a large, but do you know how much it weighs?AZ-X
Mar 25, 2002 7:47 PM
You may not have had a chance to weigh the frame, but I'm curious.

Also what's your full parts spec and the total weight. Also, how has the Fox rear shock (w/lockout?) worked for you? Is it a good compliment for the Black Elite Air front?

Thanks for any info!

PS--seeing as how we're the same person and all, I would normally consider your testimony as biased, but I'll make an exception in this case...
I'm at home, and don't have my spec list, but . . .pedalAZ
Mar 25, 2002 7:51 PM
According to the parts list, I'm at 22.0 lbs overall. It's a 2001 frame, with last year's shock setup, and no lockout. I'll send you the spreadsheet.

Mom always liked me best.
Specialized S-Works M5 FSR (M) : 2540g....nino

S-Works M5 FSR XC:
frame+shock: 2540g (not really light..)
complete bike: 11.0 kilos /24.2 lbs

it got very high ratings but this year the frame is FLEXY!!!it got tested by a german magazine and was by far the flexiest of all tested bikes...rated for lighter riders only!but it has the BEST rear suspension of all bikes tested.

what a shame!

by the way: last years s-works was lighter and stiffer even without ball bearings in the rear end...

I also have the numbers to back it up but would need to have a look at my pile of magazines.
Don't worry, Nino. Unlike some people, I'm able to take someAZ-X

basic, statements at face value. I don't think that's too outrageous to believe... I've ridden an older model and the suspension action was very good. The hype about it has really been real, but there are others out there that I will try as well as the new one. It's as much a geometry and fit issue now as a weight and suspension issue--otherwise I wouldn't look past my current NRS.
What geometry are you looking for?SKOOTER

I was thinking of getting an NRS but now that you just bought one and dont like it Im thinking twice.

I did hear they ride kinda weird from some guy but who knows.
I think the ride is really good...AZ-X

and I might miss the whole NRS setup thing if I go to a RacerX or an Element TO. I like bikes with a bit sharper angles and not so finnicky about body positioning. The angles are a bit on the slack side... I'm also pretty short, but I have a long upper torso medium sized legs for my height. I can be hard to fit. The Giant felt good at first, but I started to realize after riding it for a few months now that I was doing too much "compensating" while riding my favorite trails. The balance is just a bit off for me too.

I still think the bike is a killer performer. It accelerates like few other suspension bikes I've tried and the sid shock is actually just as sensitive and quiet as the Cane Creek AD8 I had on my old Jamis Dakar Team. The rebound adjuster also works better than the one on their forks.

A lot of this has to do with my body style I'm sure because there are some people I know that absolutely LOVE my bike when they ride it. A lot will depend on your riding style, body style and your personal feel for the fit and suspension. I wouldn't rule it out, but you should go and ride it first--especially since there are so many Giant dealers around--and preferably off-road...
Try this bike.Gary Turner

Try an I-drive, they come in at about 6.3lbs for the frame but the handling is impeccable. Perfect descender, suspension, all-arounder.

Oh, it goes where you point it too, its stiff, I guess thats what an extra 3/4 of a pound will do to a frame.
Yeah right, an anchor with no boat behind it----Next...! (nm)AZ-X

Id be more than happy to race you XC on mine.Gary Turner
Mar 27, 2002 1:30 PM
3/4 of a pound is like not taking a dump. How much of a percentage of the total package could that be. Lets say your average at 170 with all your gear, tools, water bottles, and your bike weighs 24, that puts the total package at 194 pounds, so 3/4 of a pound is not even 1/3 of ONE percent.

And it will slow you down only a fraction of that!!

It actually will probably speed you up cause it handles properly.
Sorry if I sounded rude, Gary. It was a joke!AZ-X

I'm trying to be a little more lighthearted after all that stuff. That's why I didn't even check back on this post until now. Sorry!

Even my jokes have been a little edgy lately... :o(

I'm actually tring to stay off the forum a bit. Slowly weening myself off the addiction...

well..., he's D8. I found a couple of the statements he made about his "experience" with Extralite frames to be questionable and not stand up to closer scrutiny.

frames for doing lightweight FS bikes. I don't sell Extralite and am not interested in selling them either at this time. I looked into buying one, and for the price, didn't care for the ride or flex. If Az has a problem with an honest review, that's his problem, not mine.

I think the specs are completely unchanged, as is the type of paint. My 18" (center to top, guess it's about medium) was 2305g on a digi scale. Claimed was 2420! Pretty good, eh? Rides like a charm...
