| hey guys i have just recieved my long awaited easton ec-90.. | marco righetti Mar 25, 2002 4:50 PM | | carbon flat bars and they weigh 99 grms@22 inches i was told by my lbs friend that the bars are not bar end friendly and i like bar ends the x-lite stubbie pros (trimmed)@80 grms/pair where duly fitted by myself and as i was tightening the bolt i heard a mild crack so after taking out the plastic bar endcaps i felt a slight line bulge on the inside waaahhh! too bad i have used the bar ends whilst climbing and so far so good but just in case of failure....what are the lightest aluminium flat bars you can get? |
| Yipes... | AZ-X Mar 25, 2002 5:31 PM | | Marco, I'm not sure you should be looking for the lightest XC bar at 220lbs--anyway...
If you are dead set on it, there is a new bar from Extralight called the:
"UltraBar" Carbon/Ergal composite x-c racing bar, 580mm, 4° bend, bar-end compatible, natural matt carbon finish, Uni / Din safety standard , 105gr. http://www.extralite.com/english/pricelist.htm
That is straight from the "Prices" section of their website. They supposedly use aluminum inserts at the stress points. I'm getting their UltraPush 135g riser bar in a few days and I'll report back on it after riding for a while. Generally, their stuff seems very well engineered and tested. The cost for the flat "UltraBar" is only 59 Pounds Sterling, or about $91.00. Not sure if it would have the "fatigue life" of an Easton carbon bar, but Mr. Riva is a very good engineer anyway. If you e-mail them, he'd be more than happy to answer any questions that you have. |
| Extralite bars | Andystrike10 Mar 26, 2002 1:00 PM | | I'm a big fan of Extralite, compared to Easton, very cheap as well.
I bought an Ultra XC before the Ultra push came out, it weighed 108g not the 105g it said on graphics, yes it had alu inserts for the bar ends and it was also 580mm wide. Shortly after that Cycle Care in High Wycombe rang to tell me the Ultra Push had come in, as I had not used the XC they exchanged it for the Push, very good service. The Ultra weighs 140g not the 135g claimed(not much). www.cyclecare.co.uk |
