| Carbon risers anybody? | eric wictor Mar 26, 2002 4:28 AM | | It still freaks me out that my brake levers hit the top tube of my frame, so I am in the market for a riser bar. Easton's Monkey Lite is the obvious choice, but I wonder...has anybody used ExtraLite's Ultrapush, or the new ARC bars? What's the warranty on these things? Easton does a great job, but at the moment the prices in NL are ridiculous (about 50 more than a year ago). |
| I'm running a Monkeylite Carbon | Rivet Mar 26, 2002 8:23 AM | | on my NRS and the levers still hit the top tube. I point my levers down quite a bit though ( old habit from BMX days). I dig the bar, very durable. Easton is the only company I'd personally use a carbon bar from if you plan on riding hard as I've seen some scary crashes from broken carbon bars from other Manufacturers. Also, It's kinda fun lining up next to guys in the expert class with 22" flat bars and I've got a 26" riser on my bike, but I'll never switch. |
| re: Carbon risers anybody? | Andystrike10 Mar 26, 2002 12:34 PM | | My Extralite Ultra push seems fine, they've only been out for 2 months so can't comment on longevity, the bars weigh 140g although it says 135g on the graphics.
It also says "not for downhill use" on them, they are DIN tested for what that's worth. Bars are not as flat as I'd like, give roughly 40 to 50mm rise, the carbon is more like a braiding than the fine weave of the Easton bars.
In the UK the new Easton sl is £125 and the Extralite is £69, big difference, claimed weight for the Easton is 135g.

| Will have a look! | eric wictor Mar 26, 2002 11:15 PM | | Trying out a buddy's old riser on Thrusday, just to see if it makes any difference. The Extralite is even cheaper this side of the Norths Sea, I guess about 50 pounds (can't find the stupid currency sign, Dutch keyboard layout!). The Easton EC90 that I was looking at is about the same price as you stated, which I think is just too much. |
| Andy, how are you finding the stem and bar combo? | AZ-X Mar 27, 2002 5:16 AM | | Mine will be arriving within a week or so (hopefully!) and I wanted to get impressions on the stiffness from a fellow full suspension rider. Also, do you know all the bolt sizes for the Extralite stem? I'd like to replace them with Ti. Thanks! |
| Andy, how are you finding the stem and bar combo? | Andystrike10 Mar 27, 2002 12:07 PM | | To be honest, I have not ridden it nearly enough. Biggest problem for me is the whole bike is so much lighter than I'm used to, my old bike, a Marin Mount Vision with Z1's, weighs about 28lbs, so the Scott just seems very lively and direct. The Marin had World Force cnc stem (Cullinan version?) with 25" flat bars (DW's?).
It certainly dosn't feel flexy. IMHO if your suspesion is dialled in you don't notice these things quite so much, 100mm travel remember, I think if they were flexy I would have noticed them.
I'm using Ti skewers on the bike and the front feels stiffer than the Marin which had TI Control Tech bolts, I'm sorry but steel just dosn't make that much difference for me. I know that statement would cause disagreements, but its just my own experience.
I see from your posts your looking for a new frame, I wish you could try my Scott I'd love to know what you think.
I've posted the bolt sizes further up the Forum, be very careful with the radiusing or you could weaken the components. |
