| Lightweight cassette options | eric wictor May 26, 2002 5:24 AM | | The roadie cassette thing is giving too much problems with my derailleur, so I either have to lighten my current setup (44/32/22 with an 11-32t XT cassette, which has added 78g to my bike :0[ ) or go to 2x9. Here's what I'd like to know: - Is there anybody making 11-30 9 speed cassettes? - Is there a LIGHT 11-34 cassette? Weightwise, XTR is about the same as my XT (265g) but for marathons I can't do without the 44x11 top gear. So for 2x9, I can't use an XTR cassette without modifying it heavily. Or could I? |
| Hi, Eric... | AZ-X May 26, 2002 5:34 AM | | I just got up for breakfast and I'm answering your questions below. How about trying out these guys? Maybe they'll do an 11-34t for us since they are individual cogs and they make an 11-32t anyway. They claim 205g for the MTB version--probably the smaller one--but it may be the next best option since the M952 XTR is no longer made. We should get Cloxxki to look into ordering these for his shop as well as that Fly titanium crank and ISIS BB combo. Maybe he can get us some better pricing while he's at it!

| Yikes! $160 | eric wictor May 27, 2002 7:19 AM | | That's as pricey as an XTR. But if Cloxxki's after these things to begin with, I'm interested. Just wonder how long the small ti cogs (<20t) will hold up. I generally get 7,000 to 10,000 miles out a cassette before it's ready for the bin. Anyway, thanks for the link. It's bookmarked and I'll go bother Cloxxki about this now :) |
| Yikes! $160 | AZ-X May 27, 2002 8:05 AM | | Eric, I called these guys on all their listed phone numbers and they have all been disconnected. It looks like Cloxxki's guess was right and that they are no longer in business. We have both sent them email, but I don't expect a reply. Too bad. Yet another promising prospect down the drain... |
| get a DA derailleur and loose weight at the same time (nm) | nino May 26, 2002 6:57 AM | | nm |
| The DA derailleur is hugly. :))) | Batas May 27, 2002 12:50 AM | | The DA Cassete only works at 100% with the DA Der? And with xtr? |
| DA derailleur setup... | nino May 27, 2002 2:14 AM | | only 195g and has a short cage which accepts up to 27t on the cassette only. my current setup: DA derailleur,12-27 DA cassette.works flawless

| I prefer to stick with my Plasma, if I can help it | eric wictor May 27, 2002 7:23 AM | | It's currently 190g and shifts faster than anything I know. Plus any Shimano derailleur will slap on the chainstay, when correctly adjusted. I just like my Sachs parts... I have a med cage XTR, but when I combined it with SRAM Attack shifters, it wasn't as precise as I had hoped. Maybe it needed to wear in a little bit, but the Sachs just looks better on my bike, and my hardtail needed the XTR anyway... |
| 2003 XTR...... | VT Mike May 26, 2002 7:18 AM | | will have the same cassette ratios available as XT, 11-32, 12-32 and 11-34, I think. not sure what the weights will be. they are listed on cambria.com |
| Oh yeah | eric wictor May 27, 2002 7:25 AM | | I forgot about XTR going compact next year. I've been looking at a full set of ti cogs, but I don't know how long they will last. That's an important factor for me. |
