29er help needed(3 posts)

29er help neededrp
May 27, 2002 4:50 AM
I would like to lighten up my 29er (mt tam) on the cheap. Tires seem like a logical start. I have notos at the moment. They are an excellent tire for general use but I would like a large volume, fast rolling, python-like tire -- the 52/47 nanoraptors look good. Does anyone have experience with the various 29er tires they can share? How about the mutano 44/44 -- too skinny? Anyone have any accurate weights for any of the models? How about using stan's? Will a wide rim strip stretch around the big wheel? How about taping method? My rear wheel is an off-center rim -- will there be sealing problems?

Sorry for rambling, but this 29er thing is exciting -- I would like to tweak this excellent bike a bit.

thanks

Come to www.communityzero.com/29er , we have all the knowledge concentrated on that web-community, dedicated to the big wheels.

Stan's seems to only work with the Notos', as WTB are too loose fitting around the rim to get inflated.

Conti has announced (sourse : Gary Fisher Da Man) a 580g tire, and Kenda will come with a 55mm front and rear, plus a 150g tube. Also : try to fit a 130g 26" tube around the 29" wheel, it seems to work for me, although I have little miles on that front wheel, by the lack of a 29er (yet).

Just come to the above link and join our cummunity. We have very few pics of Mt. Tams covered in dirt, please share yours with us on the picture gallery!

If you email me the exact specs of your bike I'll gladly try find some cost-effective ways to lighten your bike up. It's a hobby for me.

Hope to be able to welcome you,

Happy trails, Cloxxki

Stans is possible, but very tricky and requires much patience to tape. I'm running the Notos with latex. My friend said he can't get WTBs to seat on his Supercal as they are to tight?!?!?! The rims on those wheels do create a tight fit, and should work with Stans
All the stock stuff on that bike is relatively heavy, so all of it will lose weight. post, bar, seat, skewers, stem, pedals, brakes, cranks,BB
