| Ok guys the new site is...www.light-bikes.com | DIRT BOY May 28, 2002 9:56 AM | | When I setup the other domain name I was told it was available. But somone has had it for 2yrs now so that is why the site is not up yet.
This should be fixed and up and running by wednesday afternoon.
I am redesigning the site this week too. The bike will now be listed by 2 catagories:
Hardtails & Full Suspension
JD also suggested that we want you riders(Nino, AZ-X)to write some articles on weight related issues:
Example topics:
1) Advertised Weight vs. True Weight - The truth comes out!
2) Where is it safe to drill/dremel.
3) Top 10 recommended lightweight tires
4) The best way to get Euro parts shipped to the US.
5) I weight 180+, what parts should I stay away from?
6) I weight <120, how can I get the same bike weight to rider weight ratio as the big guys?
Maybe a editorial once a month by a differnt rider on a differnt topic?
Any other great ideas will be greatly appreciated.
REMEMBER GUYS THIS IS OUR SITE!! |
| Thanks for your hard work so far DirtBoy... | AZ-X May 28, 2002 10:25 AM | | It looks like it will work out well. The guys at weightweenies.com have done some excellent work compiling weights and even have a conversion tool for different units of measure. I think we have far more bike listings than they do though.
Maybe you guys can pool your resources.
Another thing to think about is sponsorship deals from companies like USE, Easton, Extralite, FRM, Mavic, Trek, ScottUSA, Orbea, Titus, RaceFace, American Classic, NoTubes, Fly-Sports, Crank Bros., Speedplay, etc... All those companies out there who make light weight stuff. That could easily resolve your basic issues of paying the renewal fee for the domain. We could even take it further by creating a grassroots race team, since many of us are racers, in the future with jerseys and everything! Maybe I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, but there are many possibilities here...
You could even ask Francis for a link directly from this forum to the site--and we could in turn have a link to MTBR.com... |
| Cool! let me know if you need my list of parts weights.. | nino May 28, 2002 11:13 AM | | ...as you might know i have quite a huge collection of REAL weights.but that will be A LOT of work for you... also weightweenies already has listings on different parts.I don`t know if it makes sense to do that work all over again. I used to send weightweenies (Chris) several new weights each month but for several months now no one put them online so i quit.if you would be interested i could restart that monthly update again. anyway,if you have interest here`s my e-mail: luckynino@freesurf.ch |
| Add a disclaimer | adam May 28, 2002 12:06 PM | | Sounds great - look forward to seeing it. Please make sure to find and add a good disclaimer to the site, especially on the "where to drill and dremel" page - the thought of numerous people out there going to town with their dremel tools scares the hell out of me to begin with, and you can bet someone will screw it up, break something and end up in the ER - and then try to blame you. And no nasty lawyer comments needed here - I am a plaintiff's attorney myself, yet suggesting this because I believe there are always appropriate times when the blame falls on no one but the moron who says "hey guys, check this out!!" ;-)

| make sure to include the lightest full susp bike | AcerXace May 28, 2002 12:51 PM | | from Scott USA 18.93lb for a carbon fiber full suspension, not a hardtail. |
| What's wrong with this site? | kanute May 28, 2002 4:17 PM | | What's wrong with mtbr.com that you have to split off and do your own thing? You weight weenies are your own breed. Good luck, I'll check out it and see if it is any good. Maybe you should have a section on losing body fat. Maybe you can look into the possibly installing titanium femurs in you own body (532 grams)! Or shaving all your body hair (68-213 grams)! How exciting! Fill your frame with helium! Hell, why not have a rectal helium enema, That will knock off the grams.
Here's my weight tip of the week! Take a dump before each ride, I lose at least a pound (isn't that 442 grams?)
I do have a scale here at my business that does go to the 1/1000.
just thought I'd toss that in to make some of you drool! |
