| Verified Weights For Various UST Tires..... | DR May 28, 2002 3:12 PM | | Just got my Fast Fred USTs (2.0) from Bike2Build. Claimed weight is 580 g., mine came in at 599 and 610 on a new 6001T digital scale. The tread pattern looks like it'll handle very similiar to the Michelin Jet S tubeless tires, but they're about 115 g. lighter per tire. Plus, I bet the sidewalls on the Schwalbe UST tires are quite a bit better than the fragile Michelins. Here are some other weights of tubeless tires I have (in grams):
'02 Michelin Jet S UST 2.0(Green Compound): 700, 715
'02 Michelin Jet S UST 2.0(Black Compound): 724, 726
'02 Michelin Comp S UST 1.95(Green Compound): 666, 668
'02 Specialized S-Works Rockster: 596
The Jet S tires are a bigger than average 2.0. The Specialized wore down VERY fast. I'd say those tires have about 12 hours of riding on them before they're totally useless. The Comp S tires are great in the mud. The Jet Ss are what I've been using most frequently. They roll really fast and hook up great for a semi-slick, but the sidewalls are too fragile, they're kind of heavy, and lately, I've found that they can be a bad choice for the front as they just don't have enough knobs to really bite in the dirt and hook up for fast cornering. I also recently ordered a set of 1.8 Tioga Red Phoenix UST tires which are claimed to be around 510 g. I'll let everyone know what those end up weighing. |
| Would love to know weight of Tioga Red Phoenix UST!! | DIRT BOY May 28, 2002 5:15 PM | | I just got confirmation that my wharehouse has them in stock.
Thery are a 1.9 size 47mm casing; 48mm tread 540gr claimed.
Would love to hear a real weight! This would be a nice pair of light UST if this is true. Basically bringing UST tires to around normal tire weights. This would save 1lb. off my hutchinsons. Less volume of course but light! |
| Would love to know weight of Tioga Red Phoenix UST!! | DR May 28, 2002 9:20 PM | | What wharehouse is it exactly? I tried QBP a couple days ago and they said they were supposed to arrive in March, but they hadn't seen one tire yet. Tried Tioga direct, but not sure that the order is actually going to go anywhere....
I have a set of the 450 g. Factory XC (non tubeless, 1.85, they changed the name to Red Phoenix...), and while they are an excellent tire for most any conditions, they wear pretty fast due to the super soft compound. I wonder if the UST version will use that compound. |
