..the XTR is MUCH stiffer than the S-Works crankset and the chainrings shift A LOT better and ar far more durable.am I right that `99 s-works still was for square tapered BBs?If i remember right the `00 was the year they started with the splined pattern.if you happen to have the square spindled version then you have at least the advantage to get a ultralight BottomBracket like Titec or FRM (both around 140-150g).XTR splined weigh 185g for older, serviceable versions and up to 215g for the actual `02 version.
another weight saver on your s-works cranks are some Aluminium chainring bolts.they will save about 30g over the standard steel ones.

cheapest and lightest option:
get new Sugino supershifter rings, some Al chainring bolts and a lightweight Ti BB.that will save about 100g over XTR.but then stiffness is still weaker than XTR...
thanks ninochoopa

I just went to light-bikes.com and saw your bike. Very nice. I own a 99 specialized s-works FSR and as of now it's pretty hefty at 25.6lbs. The cranks must be 00' I gues b/c it's on XTR splined bb's. Thanks for the help
