| Just got FRM titanium web stem & carbon bar.. (weight & pictures) | Brussel Sprout May 29, 2002 10:35 AM | | Here's a picture of the 130mm web titanium stem (only the bolts are titanium)...

I'm sure that the stem is strong, but it looks very skinny and wimpy on my Giant MCM.
And this is the carbon web bar

When I put a bit of pressure on the handle bars I can clearly see them flex, and one side seems to flex more than the other!
And this is my old titanium stem which the FRM is replacing...

I'm replacing this stem because it's six years old!

| hmmm... | nino May 29, 2002 10:45 AM | | by cutting away the reinforced end-plugs of the bar you`ll get it down to just 92g (520mm)!I couldn`t notice that flex issue you describe.I guess it`s the stem that flexes, not the bar itself.the FRM stem isn`t the stiffest for sure but so ain`t that Ti stem you had before.I`ve never had any complaints on my stems stiffness but it`s shorter`than yours which helps a lot.a friend of mine has a 140mm long FRM stem and it indeed flexes much more than mine. the cut away reinforced end-plugs of my FRM carbon bar:
the result:just 92g at 520mm!

| Culture shock | pedalAZ May 29, 2002 12:34 PM | | Nino! This is the USA. No American guy would be caught dead in a Speedo (also known as a marble bag), especially on film, unless he was getting paid for it, was in the middle of a triathlon or a swim meet. You'll need to Photoshop some baggies onto that first picture!
The middle three are all culturally acceptable.
The last one? Well, I hate to say it, but that could get you in trouble over here, too.
What a society we've got. Neurotic or what? |
| I know... | AZ-X May 29, 2002 1:07 PM | | American's are so ridiculous when it comes to showing skin and their bodies. I guess if they aren't PAYING for it, they don't want to see it!?! Hmmm... The difference between wearing tight bike shorts and that? The fact that the skin is showing. Cycling shorts don't hide much--especially on men... Oh well, whatever.
By the way, I wear baggies when I ride most of the time now because I too have fallen to the repression of American society... ;-) |
| Rerun of AZ brothers photo | pedalAZ May 29, 2002 1:25 PM | | This is how a couple of real American MTB studs, PedalAZ and AZ-X, dress for a ride. |
| Dude, you're freaking me out... :-) (nm) | AZ-X May 29, 2002 1:29 PM | | |

| Culture shock | H-Town May 29, 2002 2:08 PM | | That was my inital thought.. What the hell is that guy wearing??
Marble bag...
I prefer the term "Banana Hammock" myself.. |

| Nino - Contraves Guy? | BV May 30, 2002 11:57 AM | | Just curious... are you one of the Contraves (Contraves Space AG Schaffhauserstrasse 580 CH-8052 Zurich, Switzerland) boys? You look like one of the Swiss-German guys on their Ariane Fairing Installation Team. These guys were a pleasure to watch in action...eins!, vei!, drei!, vier!...! the Lead yells out as the team performed a 4-way synchronized torquing closure of the huge composite fairing halves around our satellite. .. Made us "Lockheed boys" feel like we were in a U-boat on sea trials. - BV |

| hmmm... | Brussel Sprout May 29, 2002 11:09 AM | | Gosh, you hooligan! :)
I don't use bar ends, so I think I'll have to do the same! I weighed mine without the end plugs.
BTW, Nino, I couldn't get my Magura corkies off my old bar without cutting them, so do you know where I can buy a new set?? HiBike don't seem to have them any more :(

| Mark! -What Camera Are You Using? | xc-baby May 29, 2002 6:19 PM | | Nice sharp, detailed, well exposed. What camera is it?
Thanks |
| Mark! -What Camera Are You Using? | Brussel Sprout May 29, 2002 10:07 PM | | Thanks - The camera I used is an Olympus E-100 rapid shot. I love the 10X zoom on this camera. http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/olympus/e100rs-review/index.html
I'm looking to buy a new camera, but my ideal camera doesn't exist yet - The fuji 602 comes quite close though.
