Rides like a dream!!
Had to swap out the Selle Italia SLR basic, because I couldn't heck the minimal cushioning! Waiting for the SLR XP Transam to come.
Just waiting for the 2003 Shimano components to come in to swap some of the lighter parts. What else can I lighten sensibly? |
| Nice bike... | VetteRacer Aug 10, 2002 5:35 AM | | NICE looking bike... Depending on your weight... Crankset and BB could be swapped out, stem could go lighter, seat which is already being taken care of, and pedals (although I am sure there is a reason you are running those. My Ti Frogs are like 205g. Would drop you down to the low end of the 18# mark (almost .9# in those things I think). Either way, under 19# is awesome! Just curios, how tall are you? 14" frame.. wow.. Matt |
| Nice bike... | Mycroft Aug 10, 2002 2:31 PM | | I'm 4ft tall and 3 ft wide ... :-)
Actually more like 5ft 7in and 160lbs.
Am thinking of the Shimano 959s to replace the Times. I saw the Speed Frogs, but not sure how good they are. |
| Is that weight on a scale and /w cables? Cool bike! nm | Cloxxki Aug 10, 2002 8:17 AM | | |
| Nice bike, did you actually weigh that SID Carbon? | wfl3 Aug 10, 2002 9:27 AM | | Most SID Carbons I've seen on a scale were over 1300g, plus the expander plug you have to use instead of the SFN adds another 15-20g.
Looks like you left off the cables also.
The '03 XTR cranks would look nice on that Tanasi and shave off a few more grams. If you like the Time pedals then you might like the Eggbeaters as well (very similar feel and performance), they would save you about 75g.
Very nice ride as is though. |
| he didn`t for sure! (nm) | nino Aug 10, 2002 9:30 AM | | nm |
| skewers, cables, crank bolts, etc add almost 3/4 lbs. | Baark Aug 10, 2002 1:13 PM | | Nice bike though. How do you like the short wheelbase? I would probably go up a size just to get a little more front wheel in front of me for the steep downhills.
Oh yeah, add another 200 grams to your fork as well. |
| skewers, cables, crank bolts, etc add almost 3/4 lbs. | Mycroft Aug 10, 2002 2:42 PM | | I agree about the short wheelbase (39.6in) worries me a little on downhills. The Top tube is a little short too (21+in). I'm going for a 120mm 0 degree stem (instead of 110, 10 degree) to see if it would help. Maybe a 15in would have been better, but there is none to try and I got a fairly good deal for the 14in frame. The blurb sid the standover height was 29.1in which was about right for me (but it turned out a lot less than stated).
Actually the bike fits quite well otherwise. I am usually between sizes (S and M). It rides compliantly and is highly responsive to the pedal. Going uphill is great. Downhills it feels more nervous and less stable than my previous ride: the Klein Adroit Pro (but that was a medium size and a little too big for me - felt clumsy and a little slow to steer). |
| You could put on an AMP F3 XC carbon fork, lightest ever made... | Big Daddy Aug 10, 2002 1:25 PM | | as it weighs only 2.1 lbs. Also stiffer laterally (better for tracking) than any other light weight fork out there. I am biased as I have used these forks for 8 years and absolutely love them, but in my opinion they are great. My AMP B5 bike complete with dual (AMP) discs, 5" rear travel (with Risse air shock so as to avoid the headaches that plagued AMP coil/oil shocks) and 3+" front travel weighs in at 22 lbs flat. Hey, my $.02 worth. |
| The F3 carbon wasn't that light | DeeEight Aug 10, 2002 7:22 PM | | |
| I beg to differ... | Big Daddy Aug 12, 2002 4:39 AM | | I just weighed one of mine, with an 8" steerer (actually about 7 7/8") it comes in at 990 grams, which is 2.18 lbs. Probably would not need close to 8" steerer on that bike (or most medium sized bikes), so cutting off an inch or 1.5" would bring it down to about 2.1 lbs. I have two of them, and that weight is with brake mounts, both canti and disc. If you could take off the canti mounts (difficult because they are bonded), you'd save even more weight if going with discs anyway. |
| One problem | Jaybo Aug 12, 2002 9:15 AM | | You used manufacture's reported weight in calculating your bike's weight. Mistake! Your bike is probably in the low 21 range. Great bike, though. |
