| Hutch Python Air Lights: NOTHING "AIR LIGHT" ABOUT THEM | tankhead10 Aug 10, 2002 10:49 PM | | When I got back from Jim Thorpe I opened up a box from Performance and remembered that I had ordered the Python Air Lights. 480 grams. All over the packaging 480 grams. Light weight casing this. Light weight that. Took them out of the packaging and placed them on the digital scale>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>507 FU*KING GRAMS!!!!!!!!! AND>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>497 GRAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH~ I will keep them anyway and mount them a la Stan's. Doesn't that just piss you off when a company does that. However the casing does not feel "a waifer thin" like some have mentioned. Feel similar to the Enduro Pro's. Maybe they are beefing things up a bit. |
| You're kidding, right? | GP Aug 11, 2002 12:07 AM | | Let me get this straight - you're bitching because your tires are 5.6% and 3.5% respectively over claimed weight? Wow. Is that all you have in your life to worry about?
You know, they
i do
get lighter as they wear down... |
| tanks for the math Einstein | tankhead10 Aug 11, 2002 4:19 AM | | I guess I was spoiled when my Specialized Enduro Pro's came in 60- 50 grams under claimed weight. However I do feel that having the tires come in almost 20 to 30 grams over is not a great thing let alone a good thing. But thank you for putting my life into perspective. Sometimes I do take it to the extreme. I do state that I will be keeping them because of the good reviews on performance and that is more important to me than weight. I just thought I would post the weights for those who are interested in weight savings since that is what this forum is about I think. Maybe you thought you were on the "Passion" forum or the "I think I will be an ass" forum. Did you chime in below about Nino's 5 gram savings by taking a dremel tool to a $200.00 stem? Or do you visit the forum just to take issue with people who are interested in this as a hobbie like building model airplanes. This is our interest...yours might be choking little puppies or something like that I think there are forums out there for you. Good luck finding your interest and 'till then leave our interests alone. |
| i've got one that weighs 515 g...........nm | bogart Aug 11, 2002 4:01 AM | | |
| I've weighed about 7 AirLites, all were in the 500g range.... | wfl3 Aug 11, 2002 5:50 AM | | ....for 2.0 size (Pythons & Mosquitoes). I've found them to be very durable (been using one set for almost a year now) and easy to run tubeless, very nice riding tires also. Hutchinson should just list them at 495g or 500g.
The Schwalbe Fast Freds are listed at 370g in the qualifier compound, the pair I received were 373g & 422g. 52g is like 14% over the listed weight, now that sucks. |
| Tankhead10, I think that....... | VT Mike Aug 11, 2002 6:50 AM | | tires are subject to a bit more variation in weight than other components due to the nature of the manufacturing process. Sometimes you will get lucky, sometimes you won't - but it is always dissapointing to get a tire that is heavier than expected. I think it would only be fair to say a manufacturers claim is off if you had the opportunity to weigh a lot of samples of the same tire model - or if lots of people keep reporting the weights here. I just got a Twister SS that is 326g (claimed 370) and two Explorer SS that are 441 and 446 (claimed 440). I can't beleive that Twister is that light and am a bit concerned about durability. One rocky technical ride on it with no problems so far - off for another before it gets too hot! |
| Twister SS | joeadnan Aug 11, 2002 7:32 PM | | Did a rocky descent yesterday: 4 flats on my TwisterPro Supersonics! Including a double pinch flat. And I had the tyre pressure at 45-50 psi. I only weight 60kg.
Having said, they've performed creditably on all other trails for over a year now. Btw mine weighed 328g each. |
| My weights | WilliamF Aug 11, 2002 2:33 PM | | on four python airlights: 490,488,461,448 - all purchased last year. Maybe they have changed their manufacturing process....If so, I agree they should adjust the claimed weight upward... |
