| Rim Suggestions | SLW Aug 12, 2002 9:04 AM | | Hi Everybody,
The bike shop tells me I need a new front rim. I was thinking about the usual X517 but thought that you guys might have some other suggestions. Maybe something a little less known or cheaper without being too heavy.
Thanks

| Bonties or Suns | kid4lyf Aug 12, 2002 9:22 AM | | I'm a big fan of Bontrager Valiants. bianchi4me recommends Sun as a very good light rim. |
| Go with the Valients | the_apking Aug 12, 2002 1:33 PM | | Just make sure they have them in stock. I've been waiting for 6 weeks for 123bikes.com to finish building my King/Valient/Revo wheelset. The major holdup has been that they can't get any of the rims I want from Bontager for weeks (or at least that's what they've been telling me). |
| They'll be worth the wait | kid4lyf Aug 13, 2002 11:03 AM | | You've picked a great combo. I have the orig RaceLites which are the same setup(King hubs, Valiant 24/28hole, and Revos). They're light, very stiff, and the King hubs speak for themselves. I weigh 185lbs and I've severely beaten them up in several 24 hr races (including Moab) and they've flown through without any problems. I would recommend changing the alloy nipples every few years whether they seem to need it or not. |
| Valiants are fine....but weigh them first | Patchito Aug 12, 2002 4:42 PM | | 517s are usually a consistent 395g. I originally purchased the Valiants believing the claimed weight (admittedly for the 99 version) of 375. Several posters here, however, have gotten actual weights that deviate quite substantially from the weights claimed by Bontrager...425+. My wheels are already built, so I haven't had the chance to weigh them separately, but I have doubts now. FYI |
