Nokon cable housing creak creak creak creak creak creak ...aosty
Aug 13, 2002 10:52 AM
My Nokon cable housing creaks like mad... I've been using chain lube but it seems to last only a few rides before they start acting up again. Someone here suggested I try cleaning the lube off to prevent dirt and grit from collecting... I don't think that'll help... they started creaking when they were dry and clean.

Anyone here have problems with them or the IRD's? I want to try using grease next but it's going to be a hassle to loosen up the cables to get the grease between each segment...

P.S. I have some weight-weenie-ish parts for sale here... http://marketplace.consumerreview.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.pl?db=MtbReview&website=MtbReview&language=&session_key=&search_and_display_db_button=on&results_format=long&db_id=33429&query=retrieval

Have been using them for two months. I have not used any lube at all, not even on the cables.

Not a sound? Damn... I don't understand then... I guess I'll try using grease... if that doesn't work, I'll disassemble everything and soak it in solvent... sigh....

Correct me if I'm wrong... you mentioned in a post that you picked them up at Sea Otter? ...I got mine there as well. And... you live in the muddy NW? I'm in dusty SoCal. Sooo... it probably isn't an environment or manufacturing issue.

And... I also run the internal cables dry.
