SHIMANO PLANS PUBLIC DEBUT FOR NEW XTR
- Presentation and Demo Rides Slated for Mount Snow NORBA Finals -
(Irvine, CA) - Shimano American Corporation will take the wraps off the
most eagerly anticipated new product release for 2003, when it debuts the new XTR group at the Mount Snow NORBA Finals, August 15-18.
Shimano plans a short announcement on the Mount Snow race village main
stage, at 12:30, on Saturday the 17th, concluding with the opening of the public demo riding area. The demo area will run from 1-4 on Saturday and 10-2 on Sunday, featuring six fully-equipped new XTR bikes for the public to try.
"The Mount Snow NORBA seemed like the perfect place to celebrate the new XTR with racers and fans", says Chris Distefano, Shimano's Public Relations Officer. "People have had a few sneak peeks, but we wanted to let them ride the new XTR, not just look at it". |
| Hmmm...there aren't a lot of mountains in Irvine... | SgtKarj Aug 13, 2002 6:31 PM | | ...more like none. Since I live in Irvine, I'd also love to know where the heck Mt. Snow is located! Perhaps they're referring to Snow Summit in Big Bear?
Interesting. |

There ya go! I didn't realize that Shimano had an Irvine office (or something). |
| Irvine is just the dateline | dirtdad Aug 13, 2002 8:49 PM | | Shimano's US operations are in Irvine, including marketing and PR, where they issue statements like the one I quoted, thus Irvine is used as the dateline. Do you know what a dateline is? Since you live in Irvine, you should know that Shimano is there. They are convenient and helpful in warranty claims, much more so than most bike shops. |
| Yeah, and there's plenty of mountains in Irvine!... | GP Aug 13, 2002 11:06 PM | | ...well, okay, they're not mountains in the Himalayan sense - hills, I guess you would call them. Although, Saddleback is definitely a seriously imposing hill!
Point is, there's plenty of good climbs in or near Irvine - El Moro, Laguna Beach, the Santa Anas - Orange County is my idea of MTB heaven! |
| isn't Saddleback something like 5000 ft +,- above sea level? | Patchito Aug 14, 2002 8:09 AM | | It's a good 9 mile climb from the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary just to the second gate. Don't forget about San Juan either. Yeah, we got it pretty good here, in spite of the fact we have to drive to the trailhead. |
| Thanks for the clarification... | SgtKarj Aug 14, 2002 11:09 AM | | ...however, the "mountains" others have listed as a result of this post are all NOT in the city limits of Irvine, unfortunately. I love riding El Moro, Saddleback, Blackstar, Mojeska, etc. but not a one is actually in the City of Irvine. So there! |
