| New IRD Micro-Lite "World's Lightest Tube" ? | Bianchi4Me Aug 13, 2002 6:00 PM | | New from Interloc Racing Design and the fun folks at Panaracer is the IRD MicroLite inner tube line. These come in at 97g for a 26x1.95/2.125" size complete with valve cap and stem nut. Also includes a rim strip along with the tube. At 11g, it's a little lighter than Velox, but not close to my beloved Ritchey WCS tape (4-5g). The rim strip is kinda weird in that the tape is only mildly sticky, and relies on a rubber insert glued into the tape to hold it in place. So...I think I'd give the tape a pass and stick to the tube. Advertised weight was 104g, so this is one of the rare exceptions where the product came in under spec. I don't think they are much lighter, if any, than the Performance "LunarLight" tubes (advertised at 99g for 26x1.95/2.25). Might even be the Performance tubes in a different can. |

| Agreed... | GP Aug 13, 2002 11:00 PM | | ...never seen a Lunar Lite that weighed more than 95 grams (minus cap and nut, though). |
| Maxxis... | ww.maxxis.com Aug 14, 2002 2:01 AM | | My 2000 Maxxis Flyweights 26"x1.9-2.125" both weigh in at the advertised 94g. (Schraeder valve with cap). Also came with a proprietary "rubber" rimstrip.
They don't make that version anymore, judging from their website, and the new rimstrip is cloth. New advertised weight is 104g. for the "big" size.

| HaHa, "Maxxis" and "IRD" are the exact same tube! | Bianchi4Me Aug 14, 2002 4:20 AM | | Considering they are the exact same advertised weight, exactly the same dimensional size, and both include an identical looking rim strip (which is unusual), whatcha wanna bet these are all coming from the same manufacturer, National Tire Company of Taiwan (Panaracer). I got a very strong suspicion that the Performance tubes are the same thing as well. |
| True, got a LunarLite 26x1.5-1.9" that's 79g w/ cap + nut. nm | Bianchi4Me Aug 14, 2002 3:47 AM | | nm |
| Nice and lite but ....defective? | Roadscuzz Aug 14, 2002 7:02 AM | | Two i've used keep developing holes along the the inside. The first I tossed out after patching it about eight times, all along the inside (rim side). I'd patch it, pump it up and before I could even get the wheel back on the bike I would hear a new leak. Upon closer inspection you could see tiny little splits about to become holes. Yesterday I patched the second inside hole on a second Lunar Lite tube. A couple of years ago I had a Specialized Turbo lite tube do the same thing. On the bright side, the Lunar lite in my front wheel has been flawless.

| Nice and lite but ....defective? | Albert Aug 14, 2002 9:29 AM | | One of my two Lunar Lites(26x1.5-1.9) did the same thing. Two or three tiny pin holes appeared on the inside next to the rim strip. I never could find what caused the holes and there aren't any "tiny little slits about to become holes" anywhere. I can't complain, because after two years of use the tubes still hold air. |
