Help me spec my hardtail....Rude-e

I've got some money and am ready to up-grade my MTB. How would you set this up if you were given $1500 to spend?

This is what I have to start with:
Homegrown hardtail frame
Thomson stem and seatpost
Easton ct2 bars
SLR seat
XTR rear der.

I was thinking full xtr(02 version)w/ v brakes $644 @ frankford, eggbeaters $70.00 and a new Fox 80RLT 03'fork $630.00..I think?.
that's $1344 leaving me w/ $156.00 for misc. expenses(shipping)
Or should I go w/ disc and a cheaper fork?
I am using the bike for xc racing.

Oh, by the way,my wife will be getting me wheels for christmas, so they don't count into the budget. Damn another dilema...What wheels to ask for?

Thanks for playing,
Few suggestions...DIRT BOY

If you want 02 XTR wait a while. The prices will be coming down soon.
Unless you really want a 46T big ring I would nix the XTR cranks.
Yes they are sweet a decently light but most riders don't care for the 46T BR. XTR V-Brakes are just ok. Go with Avid for a better braking and value. Unless you ride big mountains or really wet weather, v-brakes will be lighter unless you really spend some bucks.
Those Fox forks will be really expensive. Depending on your weight go for a 2001-2002 SID or Marzocchi X-fly, or Manitou Blacks line which can be had cheap on closeouts.
Or look at a 03 Manitou Skareb Comp. It's advertised at 3.0-3.2lbs.

Also unless you are a Clydesdale, sell your Thomsom stuff and get a lighter stem and post. Sugeestions:
Posts: Easton, USE, Extralite, FRM.
Stems: Extralite, Ritchey WCS, FRM and FSA

Just a few generic suggestions. If you really shop around and be open to brands, that $1500 could go a long way.
