| BLASTED FSA TI BB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | marco righetti Oct 28, 2002 11:37 AM | | would you believe it!after having waited 4 months for a replacement bb from FSA i finally got it installed today in my lbs and when i went to collect the bike the manager showed me what was happening the inside of the small ring is rubbing against the bb cup!
he assured me that this is a manufacturing defect which makes a total of 2 defects on this bb!
why cant FSA get their manufacturing process right!
I was really mad and the manager didn't blame me so i got my money back which is good but i would rather of had a properly manufactured bb!!!!!
and then to cap it all he showed me my bill shook cro-mo bb and when i turned the spindle in my hand it is making a horrible grinding sound!!!the bearings are finished which is terrible for a 4 month old bb but i dont mind so much as it has been good up until now so i've sent an e-mail to shook designs and see what they say.
In the meantime i've ordered the raceface signature ti bb@195 grms! I know its a bit heavy but reliability means more to me now! |
| Wow makes me wonder if I want those FSA Cranks... | DIRT BOY Oct 28, 2002 11:55 AM | | BUT to be fair, I have had 1 issue with my 2000 XTR cranks where the splines got fused with the cranks arms. Shimano addmitted to this and warranties the cranks with Overnight delivery a while back. I guess not is perfect but FSA has really got some bad press here.
To me realiablity is the #1 factor when looking for any parts, light or heavy. So far the Extralite and FRM stuff is doing well....

| no no dirtboy i've had no problems with the FSA chainset...... | marco righetti Oct 28, 2002 12:31 PM | | the arms and chainrings work perfectly well and i wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to you.
btw did you get my e-mail through light-bikes? |
| Yes, Check your e-mail. I am thinking about those cranks | DIRT BOY Oct 28, 2002 1:24 PM | | but my bad experience and others like you with FSA quality has me worried.
Sorry to hear about your Extralite Post. Are you not a Clydesdale? I don't think their stuff was made for bigger riders. It's not the first time I have heard one of their post breaking. I think this was the 2nd one or 3rd. All slightly different. I think one pretty much assumes that being very light components do have some risks involved.
I think that is part of the game. There torque specs are their in print. They told me that they are very particular in making sure specs are followed. I asked about putting Ti bolts in my UltraStem to make an anodized UltraStem Ul basically and the warning in the package said NO! They also told me I would void the warranty. It's the exact same stem. That's the funny part. But there thing is if we do it fine, you do it, sorry!
I guess thats is just CYA....

| yes i am 220 lbs but i have been using a USE carbon alien....... | marco righetti Oct 28, 2002 3:21 PM | | seatpost on my fuel for about a year without problems the extralite was on my street bike which i use to go to work.
btw what does cya mean? |
| dirtboy about extralite.................... | marco righetti Oct 28, 2002 12:37 PM | | I currently have the ultrastem 110 mm@108 grms without problems but my extralite seatpost snapped at the saddle fixing bolt area ie the beautifully sculptured part!
extralite said that i must of had overtorqued the bolts!its possible but i'm still not convinced! |
| re: BLASTED FSA TI BB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Nicholson Oct 28, 2002 3:06 PM | | Something is fishy here Marco - email me at info@fullspeedahead.com
I am sure there is a solution.
Thanks,

| re: BLASTED FSA TI BB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | sal bass Oct 28, 2002 3:13 PM | | it's too bad that Race face no longer uses a quality bearing cart from SKF or INA. now it's the Made in China Enduro. talk about a waste of cash. i've had those Enduros last as long as 3 months to 7 at the most. and that's with regular check ups (once a month). |
| Small ring & BB cup?--Size? | TNC Oct 28, 2002 5:44 PM | | Not actually seeing it makes it a little difficult to give a good diagnosis, but something sounds strange here. If your small ring is hitting the BB cup, it sounds more like the wrong size BB for your bike and/or crankset. With a longer spindle, the small ring shouldn't hit the cup. It just sounds like a mismatch somewhere. |
| Hey Marco, don't be surprised when... | ®i© Wi©to® Oct 28, 2002 10:59 PM | | ...your new RaceFace give out quickly, too. Apparently, the more expensive models (w/ servicable bearings) are sealed from the cup side. Problem is, any water in your BB cup can still get to the bearings, as they're not sealed on the side towards the center of the BB. A friend of mine who rides on the B1 team told me they have boxes of RaceFace Signature Ti and XS BB-units, as most last only a couple of muddy races. Does make me wonder about how they clean their bikes though... |
