| follow up to post below anybody had problems with shook bb? | marco righetti Oct 28, 2002 11:43 AM | | I've had the bill shook cro-mo bb for 4 months now without problems and today when i was getting my warranty replacement FSA ti bb installed the manager got me to turn the spindle on the shook bb and it is making a horrible grinding noise which means the bearings are shot, anybody else had this problem? |
| I've had mine about the same amount of time... | Wrenchester Oct 28, 2002 12:43 PM | | with no problems. I was just checking the torque on my crank fixing bolts a couple days ago, and took the opportunity to check the BB smoothness as well, and it was plenty smooth.
Do you, by chance, ride in wet conditions? One of the defining traits of where I ride is that it is extremely dry. The only time my Shook BB has been near water is when I have washed the bike. |
| i live in scotland UK where it can be wet................... | marco righetti Oct 28, 2002 12:53 PM | | but i tend to not ride when its wet but i will be as the winter progresses so the only time the bike has been exposed to water in the last 4 months is when i wash it,I use a garden hose and not a jet power wash but surely a quality bb should be able to withstand being washed? |
| Yes!, same problems... | Tcov Oct 28, 2002 4:01 PM | | kind of strange, it was working perfectly for about 4 or 5 months and then it just got EXTREMELY rough. Looks like they will replace it, I have a RA # but none are in stock at the moment. I loved the bb, very stiff, light, worked well until now. |
| Cruizy's too....to be replaced by warranty. (nm) | Zonic Man Oct 28, 2002 4:43 PM | | |

| I'm having mine replaced | Anders Oct 29, 2002 12:31 AM | | because the bearings are ticking, and it don't run as smooth as I did from new. About the stiffness issue. I is not much stiffer than the Raceface taperlock in steel that I had before. So now I'm going for the Truvative Gigapipe in steel. Yes,, it's 100grams heavier, but it will save me from the sound of the chain rubbing the front derrailure. |
| I'm not saying that... | AZ-X Oct 29, 2002 4:25 AM | | your chain was not rubbing, but I would honestly doubt that the Taperlock BB was stiffer or even of equal stiffness. What crankset and (especially) frame are you running? I would look there first--especially if you felt the flex before... If you were having an issue like that, the Gigapipe may help--but I'm not really positive about that either. |
| I'm not saying that... | Anders Oct 30, 2002 5:29 AM | | The thing is. I changed my frame at the same time, that I changed the crankset and BB. I had a Giant MCM, with the taperlock and a Raceface Turbine LP square. The I bought my new SC superlight and bought the new turbine with ISIS and the AMC ISIS box. Then the rubbing started. I didn't noticed any flex on the MCM.
But when I push the crankarm on the superlight, it feels pretty soft, when I compare it to a comnination of a Raceface signature steel/prodigy combo, that one of my friends has.
But I will post, when I have tried the truvativ. |
| re: follow up to post below anybody had problems with shook bb? | tankhead10 Oct 29, 2002 4:11 AM | | I had problems and I sent it back. They sent me one in September. I haven't installed it because I am soooo happy with my FSA extreme ti isis. 20 grams heavier but no grinding bearings. If anyone is interested in the 113mm Bill Shook ISIS with FSA crank bolts (170 grams total)e-mail me I might want to sell mine. |
| tankhead 10 FSA ti bb your joking! see post below nm | marco righetti Oct 29, 2002 9:02 AM | | |
| Did you read the posts about wrong size possibly? | tankhead10 Oct 29, 2002 10:19 AM | | I think I agree with the people who posted soemthing about the wrong size installed. Does you frame require a 73mm or 68mm? My FSA ti bb is running very smoothly and had no problems what so ever.. My first one had a problem with the tolerances being to tight but the warranty bb is working just fine. |
| i have a trek fuel 80 tankhead10 i think its a 73 mm size nm | marco righetti Oct 29, 2002 10:45 AM | | |
