| How do I lighten my BMX? | GINOM Oct 29, 2002 10:56 PM | | Hello, i just bought a Haro Cozmo and this this is very heavy, something like 34 lbs.. any ideas on how to take the weight off? or should i just sell it and get a different bike to start with thanks |
| The haro cozmo is a freestyle bmx..................... | Alex_uk_xc Oct 30, 2002 2:49 AM | | it's heavy for a good reason.....strenght, if your not going to hit the verts, then maybe you should choose a different bike. Racing bmx'x are lighter than vert bmx's.
Maybe try a single speed mountain bike. Find a cheap second hand bike and convert it yourself or buy a singlespeed specific frame.
have a chat on the single speed forum. 18lbs is easily achievable. We can help you on this forum to choose the lightest components, some of which are not neccesarily the most expensive!
good luck

1. Wheels - depending on how strong you need, go either 48's or 36's w/ dbl butted spokes, alum. nips, mavic makes a nice set of light rims, but I think they're only available in 36 h.
2. Tires - kevlar bead
3. Cranks - if they're one piece, go 3 piece. Not everybody needs the overbuilt chromoly 3 piece either...
4. Pedals - magnesium platforms
5. Seat/ post - If you wreck a lot, don't go too light. But nothing wrong w/ running an aluminum post and a "normal" railed mtb type seat.
And there's always more you can do, but this is a start... |
