Anyone using a Rock Shox SID with disc?(5 posts)

Anyone using a Rock Shox SID with disc?KMan

I'm really thinking about trying a SID w/ disc. I know it has been talked about that the fork is really flexy. Anyone have any REAL experience with this one way or the other. I currenly am using an 02 RS Duke Race which runs around 3.5 lbs and work exceptionally well for me. I just seem to have that dying urge to try and loose that .6 lbs on the fork. Not going to do it if it will feel like a POS though.

Michael,

Yep, I did last summer before I went fully rigid. I was using Formula B4s and the Hope Minis on a SID Race fork and didn't have any problems with it. Granted, I'm only 135lbs so flex usually isn't an issue for me. However, I do race-/ride-on some very technical trails.

Wanna loose even more than 0.6 lbs? Get one of these: fully rigid Morati Titanium, disc-only fork @ 640g (1.4lbs) uncut.

I've been racing/riding/training on my Seven Ti singlespeed with a Morati Titanium rigid disc-only fork for ~1 yr and it has been perfect! It is damn light and has just enough "give" to take the edge-off harsh rocky and rooty singletrack. Yet, it is stiff enough to "thread-the-needle" in tight sections without being bounced off-line or deflected. Also, the welds and constructions are beautifully done!

Ride Hard,
Mike B.

I actually road a "beater" rigid SS a few laps at our team Cross race a few weeks ago and I was "different" to say the least. right now I think I sticking with suspension......my wife would KILL me if I dropped that kind of $$ on a bike.

Thanks

I went to disc is that the vees were constantly rubbing on the rim when I put a little twist on the fork. It is really flexy and the sound of the pad on the rim was annoying. Had this setup for about six months and it works fine for me. BTW I'm not as aggressive as some guys if that makes a difference. (but then I wouldn't have a 2.8 lb. fork if I was)
Have used the 2001 sid sl, with B4's...Anders

and it worked fine. But after one season the bushings were worn, so there was a lot of sideflex. They should have improved the lower bushings for 2002 and forward, but I don't trust the longivity of sid forks anymore.
When I sold the sid sl, I borrowed a Marazocchi Marathon 2001 for a ride, and was surprised, that it was now possible to hold a straight line in curves, and the payoff was "only" 170grams. I bought it the same day. Been happy since.
