| Same old problem with light-bikes.com....Is it just my computer? | Chester Jan 27, 2003 8:17 PM | | Well, its not a big thing if its just me, but I tried light-bikes.com again and still find the same problem I did months ago...
Whenever I go to the site, it just doesn't load like any other page on the internet....
I just makes my computer grind on and on and on and on and on...endlessly.....never seeming to stop.
Since it always happens on that site and never happens on any other site, there must be something different that is on that site.....
I don't know, but its enough to make me go crazy so I just won't go there any more....
Hopefully its only my computer, but I have to doubt I am the only one with this problem....My computer is rather old....and only 200 mhz but seems to do fine with all other sites....even if a bit slow on some of them....
Just wondering whats up...

| Chester, What type of modem do you use? | DIRT BOY Jan 28, 2003 2:02 AM | | I have the site set-up for dial-up user actually. It should load with a 28K connection in 40 seconds. A DSL or Cable Modem will load it in 8 secs fo less.
I will check everything to see if I can make it faster.
BTW..I have a 400mz with DSL and the page will load in 3 secs.

| 56K.........but operates at about 28k | Chester Jan 28, 2003 8:35 PM | | While I have a 56k modem since I am so far from the switch, I only get about 28k-31k.......
However speed does not seem to be the problem.....
something on the site just makes my computer go wacky.....it doesn't even make the normal loading noise.....it starts a grinding buzzing noise that just goes on and on and on........
When I tried it several times..months ago it did the same thing. I don't get this with any other site I visit.....
Don't go trying to change everything just for me........It must be just some weird problem with my particular computer and your particular site......Who knows what it could be.....
Not a big deal..... Just wanted to know if anyone else was experiencing the same problem. If I am the only one, the its no big deal..

| That's really strange. Have you tried lately? I am on new servers | DIRT BOY Jan 29, 2003 3:19 AM | | with a different hosting company than before. I have never heard of a problems like that. The only thing my hosting company said it could be is the way your ISP connects to those servers. It might be taking a long unusual route to get to light-bikes causing a long time out delay. I would call your ISP and ask about this. Also try the new servers by going to the site now. The site is faster than the last ones.

| OK....better this time.......loaded the hardtail page | Chester Jan 29, 2003 1:50 PM | | Tried again today. Still got unusual noise but main page loaded OK compared to in the past. Then I clicked on the hardtail page and that loaded in about 1 minute. I thought it was going to take forever because nothing was showing in the pics but then they all appeared at once. So I am happy.......Except I can now see that I am riding a TANK! I ride fast (relative to others) but have relatively low end bike..
A 2000 Rockhopper A1 Pro....with some fair components..Standard with XT Rear Deraillure etc.... With light pedals installed, it weighs in at 25.4 pounds on the LBS hanging scale. Oh yeah, my substitute saddle for the OEM "rock"...is a cushy 430 grams....so at 25.4 there are lots of places to cut. OR I can just wait and start out with a lighter new bike which probably would be cheaper in the long run since my frame alone is about 400 grams heavier than a standard Stumpjumper.
On the other hand as we discussed in a previous thread, if I cut down 2.5 pounds it would only cut off about 8 seconds on a 10 minute (600 second) hill. I guess even going down 5.0 pounds would only cut off about 16 seconds. Of course in yards.....that is a huge advantage and over a 60 minute cross country course, that would be quite a bit although the difference on the flats is much smaller...
Anyway the site is working for me now.....Thanks
