bad idea to use it for mountain biking? I want more than 6deg rise, but otherwise like their stems.

MTB bars have a smaller diameter than road bars. It's strongly discouraged to use a road stem and MTB bars.

I use them to get -17º out of my WCS stem, my Urangutan-like arms require low low bars. With the shims the bar clamps on just fine, no problems at all. Shims are kinda narrow, but no issues for me.
Stainless steel.

If you're interested I have a brand new Ritchey WCS stem for sale.

Specs:
* 100mm
* +/-17 degrees
* 1-1/8" threadless steerer diameter
* 26/25.8mm handlebar clamp diameter
* 129g with six steel bolts (ie you can easily get the weight to <120g by changing the bolts to Ti).
* Price $55 plus shipping (Cambria and Speedgoat sell these for $90)
