| light wheels and disc options for new Blur | AZflightnurse Jan 26, 2003 9:31 PM | | Hey there, I'm building a new Blur frame and need wheel selection help. I weigh 172 lbs. I'm trying to go light and durable on this bike, (fork is a Fox float 100 RL). I'm considering these options: 2003 XTR splined hubs with mavic 3.1x disc tubeless rims (or 317 mavic and stan's no tubes)and xtr disc brakes. Chris king discotech hubs with either of the above rims and magura martha discs with stan's aluminum rotors (or xtr discs with bolt on rotors). Or same setup with american classic hubs. I love Chris king but am unsure of the noise they produce. Sorry about all the confusion. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Scott |

| Wow. | Zonic Man Jan 27, 2003 8:31 AM | | I've ridden all the combinations you listed on your bike...on my bikes. LOL.
I settled on 2003 XTR w/ 3.1 tubeless rims. I'm running them w/ stan's latex and WTB tires w/ NO issues. Great setup, light and durable.
If you want the longest lasting, most expensive (but heaviest out of what you noted) go king, but with the stainless drive shellbody (ISO) and the XTR 6 bolt rotors.
If you want the lightest, go with an AmClassic/supercomp/317/stan's setup. Has been reliable and perfect for my racer fiance for going on a year now. Excellent setup, she's only 125 though.
Get the XTR discs, they are the best XC discs I've ever tried, bar none.
Also, the 3.1s are burlier than the 317s, but w/ a weigh penalty. |
| Wow. | AZflightnurse Jan 27, 2003 10:38 AM | | Thank you for the advice, the XTR setup is the way I'll probably go. I'm happy to hear the brakes are working well (I'm glad a first year run from XTR discs might live up to XTR standards). Thanks Scott |
| Ditto on the XTR brakes, they are awesome | Tcov Jan 27, 2003 11:38 AM | | I'm running a Blur with XTR disc hubs, Velocity VXC disc rims, XTR discs and Stan's rimstrip. No problems, three races, two months, I love the set up. |
