| Just got my new Flite saddle: 243 grams-what to do? | Chuck D Jan 28, 2003 2:11 PM | | Performance advertised it as 220. Yes, I know that for another $30 dollars I could have gotten the SLR. However, I wanted a normal shapped saddle. And, I've read that the leather wears through on the edges of that one. This one is for the road bike. I really wanted stiff, and here it is. Oh well...Light, Strong, Cheap: pick any two. But come on, an 11% deviation in mass seams excessive for a company like Selle Italia. |
| or get a TT................. | bogart Jan 28, 2003 4:26 PM | | at a 163 grams, it feels just like a flite. |
| Flite Basic at Selle Italia web site | Sunny Jan 28, 2003 9:40 PM | | is listed as 235g+/-8%. |
| And then there's the "135g" printed on the side of SLRs... | Wrenchester Jan 28, 2003 11:01 PM | | that consistently weighed 145+g. Oh well--that's why we have the weight weenies site, where you find real-world component weights. |
| We have a 137g one in the house - guess we got lucky :) nm | Seb (UK) Jan 29, 2003 2:01 AM | | nm |
| 90$ for the TT is just too much for a saddle I might not like... | Chuck D Jan 29, 2003 11:07 AM | | I just want to try my new saddle. First, the highs were in the teens and now its warm but raining. If I really like this saddle, then I might get the TT for the mountain bike. Humm...$40 to save 78 grams...I know thats a bargain around here. I guess I'm not realy a weight weenie. |
| What to do? | andy f. Jan 29, 2003 4:39 PM | | Put it on and ride. Or return it and buy a WTB Rocket V Stealth. It'll be about an ounce and a half lighter for nearly twice the price.
The Rocket V and original Flite are the two lightest saddles i've tried that I thought were comfortable. I've got a Flite on my singlespeed to keep it light but a 380g Selle Italia Prolink Genuine Gel on my 33 lb. full suspension. Now that's a comfortable saddle. |
| im used to ride the flite ti for about six years and now i.... | stump Jan 29, 2003 6:24 PM | | switched for the lighter tt version..its way harder, its not as confortable like the standard flite. they are very different saddle, i mean, they feel very different. |
| Old Flites good, newer Flites bad! | Cloxxki Jan 30, 2003 5:14 AM | | I have a worn ca. '96 Flite, black with red logo on the back. 201g, and way comfortable. Needed a seat, and got a new Flite in 2000, 220g and tough as a brick. Never got much softer, the way the old ones were said to wear in after a couple thousand kilometres.
I don't understand why Selle Italia stopped making good Flites, and started putting more material in, I think, the shell. Old ones were a-ok to me, I'd buy some more if they were available.
I like my TT, not it's price. My first series SLR was 136g, I got really lucky, till the cover got ripped on the first wall I placed my bike against. Great race seat, as the TT, but the SLR is bad on long slow rides. |
| That's not what I wanted to here. nm. | Chuck D Jan 31, 2003 10:14 AM | | |

Good luck |
