Just got my new Flite saddle: 243 grams-what to do?(11 posts)

Just got my new Flite saddle: 243 grams-what to do?Chuck D

Performance advertised it as 220. Yes, I know that for another $30 dollars I could have gotten the SLR. However, I wanted a normal shapped saddle. And, I've read that the leather wears through on the edges of that one.
This one is for the road bike. I really wanted stiff, and here it is.
Oh well...Light, Strong, Cheap: pick any two.
But come on, an 11% deviation in mass seams excessive for a company like Selle Italia.
or get a TT.................bogart

at a 163 grams, it feels just like a flite.

is listed as 235g+/-8%.
And then there's the "135g" printed on the side of SLRs...Wrenchester

that consistently weighed 145+g. Oh well--that's why we have the weight weenies site, where you find real-world component weights.
We have a 137g one in the house - guess we got lucky :) nmSeb (UK)

90$ for the TT is just too much for a saddle I might not like...Chuck D

I just want to try my new saddle. First, the highs were in the teens and now its warm but raining. If I really like this saddle, then I might get the TT for the mountain bike.
Humm...$40 to save 78 grams...I know thats a bargain around here.
I guess I'm not realy a weight weenie.
What to do?andy f.

Put it on and ride. Or return it and buy a WTB Rocket V Stealth. It'll be about an ounce and a half lighter for nearly twice the price.

The Rocket V and original Flite are the two lightest saddles i've tried that I thought were comfortable. I've got a Flite on my singlespeed to keep it light but a 380g Selle Italia Prolink Genuine Gel on my 33 lb. full suspension. Now that's a comfortable saddle.
im used to ride the flite ti for about six years and now i....stump

switched for the lighter tt version..its way harder, its not as confortable like the standard flite. they are very different saddle, i mean, they feel very different.
Old Flites good, newer Flites bad!Cloxxki

I have a worn ca. '96 Flite, black with red logo on the back. 201g, and way comfortable. Needed a seat, and got a new Flite in 2000, 220g and tough as a brick. Never got much softer, the way the old ones were said to wear in after a couple thousand kilometres.

I don't understand why Selle Italia stopped making good Flites, and started putting more material in, I think, the shell. Old ones were a-ok to me, I'd buy some more if they were available.
I like my TT, not it's price. My first series SLR was 136g, I got really lucky, till the cover got ripped on the first wall I placed my bike against. Great race seat, as the TT, but the SLR is bad on long slow rides.
That's not what I wanted to here. nm.Chuck D

I saw an advertisement of selle Italia (in Germany), saying that there might be +- 5 % of weight. So it seems you got quiet far beyond this and may ask for replacement.

Good luck
