| how much weight will stan's aluminum rotors save ? | ccm Jan 28, 2003 9:17 PM | | how much weight will stan's aluminum rotors save on hope mini's (165mm diameter)? |
| Exactly........ | YaMon Jan 29, 2003 4:43 AM | | I have 165 mm Formulas. I assume the Hope's are around the same weight. Stans are suppose to be 53 grams each. Do the math, you save approx. 120 grams TOTAL ~ a smidge over 1/4 pound. Not sure if the brake pads are the same since you have to switch those too. Assume they weight about the same as the regular ones.

| What weights are you comparing? | ccm Jan 29, 2003 2:45 PM | | weight weenies website is not much help because it doesn't indicate what rotor size, oil volume or hose length are used for each brake set.
hope rotors appear to twice as thick as magura rotors (therefore, much heavier for the same rotor diameter)
anyone have the weight of one hope rotor? please give size too |
| 120gm for front, rear or both? nm | ccm Jan 29, 2003 5:11 PM | | |
| Only ~55gr per end compared to Marta wavy (nm) | FritzMan Jan 30, 2003 4:23 AM | | |
| And I weighed my '03 Marta wavy rotor at 104g each [nm] | AndyH Jan 30, 2003 5:51 AM | | |

"Hope Mini 165mm - 147g"
So, your savings would be : 2*(147-54)= 186g!! That is, supposing pad weights are identical. Quite significant, IMO, especially as the Mini's are already consider rather light, and performance and strength remain the same. |
| thanks cloxxki | ccm Jan 30, 2003 9:05 PM | | I would also have to convert my front 185mm rotor to 165mm, because large aluminum rotors are not available.
according to weightweenies the 185mm complete brake set is 50gm heavier than 165mm complete set
therefore weight saving would be ~236gm
cool, hope minis would then be lighter than xtr v-brakes |
