UST rims with standard tyres?(2 posts)

UST rims with standard tyres?Mario Cippollini

Is it possible to use a standard tyre with a tubeless rim without an inner tube? If it is this would surely be a distinct advantage as it could save around 300g per wheel over a conventional UST set up and around 200g for a tyre tube combination as you could use a lightweight tyre such as Panaracer trailblaster 1.8 (400g) or Kenda Klimax lite (345g). Not only this but the weight would be removed from the most effected area on a bike, the outside of a wheel.

If this is not possible would some of Stans sealent help make a standard tyre compatible. Plus could you convert a road wheel such as a Mavic Ksyrium with no spoke holes to tubeless with the addition of a UST valve?
