| Thanks TM and Nino- apparantly my pics were too big.silly old me | malcolm Apr 11, 2003 1:27 AM | | And thanks TM for the nice comments.
As you can see the Australasian version is a totally different colour and with black accessories(same spec though)- dont know why they changed it from the blue.
It weighs 25lbs(according to some butchers scales) which isnt to bad with the Duke.- frame must be a little heavier than my Trek fuel I think.
Saved a pound of weight with the eclipse system and std. tyres.
Have had one race and tyres stayed on , so far so good.
Any questions please feel free to ask.

| Don't worry. | Zonic Man Apr 11, 2003 7:03 AM | | I've crashed MANY times on them, and it's all good. What you see that's so "big" is a large protective covering is all.
Nice bike....but a DUKE? Just doesn't do justice to that rig. |
| Don't worry. | malcolm Apr 11, 2003 11:59 AM | | Put on the duke to get some more travel and beef the front end up as I weigh 185 lbs.I also wanted to retain the remote lokout, or I may have put a fox on, but they arent cheap in this part of the world.
The Duke feels really good so far and very plush. They dont seem to get bagged like the Sid and the psylo.

| Same reason I went with a Marathon........... | farmer rick Apr 11, 2003 2:30 PM | | over the Fox F80 for my NRS, picked it up for A$400, instead of A$1600 for a new Fox ! |
| Very nice indeed!! Love that color | Duckman Apr 11, 2003 2:59 PM | | ...too. Very well spec'd out. Nice to see other color schemes like that. Very unique compared to any other i've seen. Killer bike.

| Is that your Protege 5? | Halloween Apr 11, 2003 7:18 AM | | I really dig mine. A fun little bike hauler for 20K! |
| Is that your Protege 5? | malcolm Apr 11, 2003 11:55 AM | | Over in this part of the world they call it a Mazda Famillia sport 20.
Same specs I think.Yeah plenty of room for bike inside and has factory racks on top which I added sportracks to to carry 2x bikes.

| A question | GiantMan Apr 11, 2003 10:05 PM | | Beautiful bike. How do you like that set back thomson post? I have been thinking about going with one of those. Any reason why you went with the set back. Is it a 27.2 / 330 with the shim.
Thanks
GM |
| An answer. | malcolm Apr 12, 2003 2:20 PM | | Went with the Thomson because I came from a Trek Fuel 19" which are long in the top tube so to get close to this I needed the extra length that the layback gives you.I used the 27.2- I think it is the 330mm or longer, with shim as I dont think the supplier had any 30.8 size.
Glad you like the bike.
Cheers,
Malc. |
| Thanks! | GiantMan Apr 12, 2003 9:11 PM | | Very interesting. I also came from Trek bikes. I had a 19.5 2000 8000 and 19.5 2001 STP. I noticed when I moved to the Giant the top tube was shorter. 20.5. Just different geometry I guess but I would like a bit more room. Maybe the set back will help but I don't know if it would put you much farther back than the stock titec. The straight Thomson posts would put you closer for sure than the stock titec so I dont want to go with that
